Would Mavis ever forgive Agnes?

“Now, that is really something you can sink your teeth into,” Mavis Barker remarked, wiping a smear of mustard off her chin.

Agnes rolled her eyes. “Don’t remind me I have dentures and can’t eat that yummy type of stuff.” Her teeth clicked as she firmly snapped her mouth shut.

“That’s because you only wear them when you want to put yourself on public display. If you wore them daily, you’d get used to them and could eat whatever you want.” Mavis wasn’t going to let this go.

“There is one good thing about it. Look how much weight I’ve lost?” Agnes winked and nodded at the man covertly eyeballing her figure from the next table.

“You invite me along just because I make you look good. I know the drill.” Mavis stabbed her fork into her German chocolate cake. “Ouch. That sweetness just gave me a toothache,” she said, rubbing her jaw.

Both watched as the handsome debonair stranger pushed back his chair and walked over to their table. “I couldn’t help overhearing your conversation. I’m Doctor Hanigan, dentist. I think you both could benefit from a visit to my office. Here’s my card.”

“He was ogling for you to make the next payment on his golf club membership,” laughed Mavis.

“Want to bet?” asked Agnes, seeing the way the man turned around, waved, and winked as he left. “Twenty dollars on him seeing me first, waving a fee on doing my new implants, and us going out on a first date.”

Mavis lost the bet and the twenty dollars. She later found out it wasn’t Doctor Hanigan who had asked for the date, and the implants were covered by Agnes' insurance.

That got to her every time she saw Agnes smile.
