What I want for Christmas 284-word flash

True Gifts

When asked: “What do you want for Christmas? I never know what to say!
The truth is I don’t need gifts. At my age and stage of life, I’m trying to get rid of things rather than get more. I don’t lug out ornaments and a tree these days.
A ceramic tree I was given by a friend some years ago, is placed on the gate-leg table that sits in front of my living room picture window, front and center. I then add angel ornaments around it. That’s usually it, for decorations.
Although, I must admit to having removed the crystal drops from a chandelier that lights the hall and living room and placed all the Christmas cat ornaments I’ve collected over the years on the hooks of it. It’s a permanent installation.
What I really want for Christmas is good health for all my loved ones including myself and my spouse. To keep in touch with family and friends regularly all year round. Some sugar-free goodies that I didn’t make. My youngest brother Grant’s Nuts and Bolts come to mind.
Not much dialogue in this little piece, but true gifts don’t need any. The biggest true gift I want the most is continued inspiration for my writing, which is something I always get from Writing.com.
Thankfulness all year round is another gift that I try to spread around. Prayer and simply talking to God is part of that. Giving love should not depend on reciprocation.
To sum up, I’m so thankful for all the WDCers and wish them whatever they most want, for Christmas and all year round. As for me, if I get nothing for Christmas, that’s fine with me.
