Write a rhyming poem about the ocean without using the word “water”. |
Yearnings I yearn for Maui, the sun setting on the beach where I run, chasing sunsets during golden hour; regaining strength, regaining power. Sunsets reflecting on the ocean deep, I watch for whales, away I keep from Honu basking on the shore: wish I could be there forevermore. Wearing a lei of flowers pink, a Mai Tai in my hand for me to drink. The Pacific sea, all greens and blue, fills my soul, I tell you true! The rhymic pounding of the ocean's waves, calls to me through memories saved. A siren's call, to Pele's beach, so far away and out of reach. I yearn for Maui, my favorite isle. It's been too long, it's been a while. I need her liquid where whale song sounds, where Honu swim and know no bounds. I need to float beyond the break, staring at stars, weightless, awake. Alive as nowhere else I find: I need to go and ease my mind. I want to sink beneath the surface, free to swim with turtles, a mermaid be. and yet I sit here in a drought, impossible now, I grouse and pout. Economy heartless, his job history, the monies saved, we no longer see. Food and bills must be paid and that money and Maui quickly fade. Memories are great, but they don't quench my soul, they don't keep me balanced, they don't keep me whole. All I can do is do what I can, and hope I come up with a new Maui plan! |
