Being loved by a heart so cold

It’s cold like a heart
that learned how to survive
by freezing first.

The kind of cold
that doesn’t just bite your skin
but settles in your chest,
pulls a chair up to your ribs,
and stays.

The air feels abandoned—
no warmth left to give,
no apology either.

I’ve known this cold.
It’s the silence after promises,
the breath you hold
when love stops reaching back.

Winter outside mirrors the truth inside:
some hearts don’t break—
they harden,
turning tenderness into ice,
and call it strength.

And still,
I stand here shivering,
wondering if the thaw will come…
or if this is just the climate
of being loved by you.
