the music still remains

Forgotten Lyrics

The brain scan suggests
early onset dementia.
I had a hunch it might be so.
It feels sometimes
like a colony of bees
inside my head
among the rattling chains
of plaques and tangles.
But still, there is life,
there is music.
I reach and grasp
for the Mozart, the Mahler,
Bach, Beatles, Beethoven,
Miles and Coltrane.
I don't fret
about forgotten lyrics.
I hum, I sing, I dance.
