Hey Fivesixer , Here I am, buddy! I just read your blog entry from yesterday. I guess you missed me? Sorry, it's been a busy couple of days. I'm quite happy to report that the Phillies won their first game yesterday - WOOHOO! Now they are 1-2. Yesterday's win was ugly but we'll take a win any way we can get it. Here's a link to the box score, if you're interested http://philadelphia.phillies.mlb.com/news/wrap.jsp?ymd=20080403&content_id=24880... I have to admit I had my doubts, especially after that first inning when the Nats scored 5 runs! The Phillies had 4 errors in the game. It was bad. It was almost as if they all suddenly forgot how to field the ball. Poor Jamie Moyer, those 5 runs in the first weren't his fault. And hey, Tom "Flash" Gordon's ERA is down after his outing yesterday. Prior to him going in to the game yesterday his ERA was 135 (yes, that's correct...after what he did in Monday's game). It's now down to 33.75. Way to go, Trash....uh, I mean, Flash. I guess sarcasm is hard to pick up in a blog entry. In other baseball news, the Padres won yesterday too (http://sandiego.padres.mlb.com/news/gameday_recap.jsp?ymd=20080403&content_id=24...). Some of you may be wondering why I have a link to the Phillies website and a link to the Padres website. The answer? I LOVE RANDY WOLF! Even though he hasn't played for the Phillies in 2 years, I still follow him. Besides being adorable, I think he's a good pitcher and he seems to be very smart and funny too (also bonuses). And, yes, my husband is aware of my crush on him. Pearl Jam is coming to town. Tickets went on sale at noon today. I got 4 tickets, my husband got 4 and one of my co-workers got 4 also. Seats were sold out in the first 5 minutes so we all ended up with lawn seats, which I'm OK with. A lot of times, I actually prefer the lawn seats. Pull up some lawn and have a seat! We had to take our dog to the vet last night. She was out of her Frontline (flea & tick medicine), she needed her nails cut and we also think she has arthritis so we just wanted them to check her out. She'll be 14 years old in August so we were fairly certain it was arthritis. The vet confirmed that's what it is. The dog hasn't seemed like she's in pain or anything, she just has trouble getting up and down on the furniture and stuff. She's now on medicine for her arthritis. My poor little, old lady! Awwww! Here's a picture of my little cutie "Invalid Item" . She was such a good girl at the vet too. She always is and they always make such a fuss over her because she really is adorable and so lovable. We were in the waiting room with several other people and their dogs and there was this one family in the waiting room with no pet. Someone asked them, just friendly conversation, what they were there for. They were there to pick up their dog, who had been in the hospital. She has terminal cancer. They were taking her home to die. My heart broke. My husband said that tears just welled up in my eyes and he really thought I was going to start crying right then and there (and I'm so NOT a public crier). I hate things like that. It's just so, so sad. Given my dogs age, we can't help but think about things like that. I mean she's little and small dogs typically have a longer life span than bigger dogs but it's still very upsetting to think about. Why can't dogs live as long as humans? They love you more completely and unconditionally than anyone else. I, sometimes, wish humans could love that way. |
Actually, I don't and that's my problem. I LOVE baseball and I happen to love a team that stinks. Why is it that the Phillies start off the season so badly every year? I'm sitting here watching the game. Cole Hamels is actually pitching very well. He's still in the game (at the 7th inning stretch) but the Phils are down 1-0. Now c'mon guys, you have to actually score runs in order to win a game. Where is their offense? Maybe they left it in Florida? Oh wait, that's right, they didn't have any offense (or pitching) in Spring Training either. I know it's only game #2 of a 162-game season but they always suck in the month of April. Then they end up scrambling at the end of the season just trying to make it to the post season. OK, I've had my little rant. I feel much better now. Of course, I'd feel great if the Phillies could pull off a win tonight. On another note, completely off subject, has anyone seen the sponsored item "Uncle Charlie's Balls"? WTF?! Who has Uncle Charlie's balls and isn't he missing them? |
Hahaha...I guess the joke is on us today. It took me a minute to realize when I first logged in to WDC this morning and saw the logo at the top of the page was upside down. Since it was before I had my second cup of something caffeinated (see my bio "Invalid Item" for more information on that), I thought maybe it was me or my computer. I actually logged out and then logged back in again. Whoops! The joke was on me. As soon as I logged in the second time, I realized exactly what it was. The powers that be at WDC pulled a funny for April Fools' Day. Then I started to notice that every so often the logo would be right side up again but at the bottom where it usually says "Write On! Est. 2000", there were some other sayings. Here are just a few of the ones I caught: "Some Line Here" "Go Write Something" "What's today?" "Crazy? Creative." Crazy? Yes. Creative? OK, I'll give them that one. All kidding aside, I did get a chuckle out of it. It's all in good fun, right? The meanest April Fool's joke I've gotten so far today? "Hey Jul, the Phillies won today. April Fools!" Very funny. The Phillies have the day off today. It's not like I wouldn't know that. I only have their schedule hanging in my cube at work (and one on my fridge at home). It's not like I don't already have their schedule memorized (almost). Adding to the craziness here on WDC, we've got the fortune, or misfortune depending on how you look at it, of "Anonymous Fool Reviewers". Has anyone else been hit by one of these guys today? Just go take a look on the public review page and you'll see a bunch of them. I got two Anonymous Fool Reviews of my poem, "Invalid Item" . They both gave me a 4.5 rating on it but, like my friend and fellow blogger, Fivesixer (check out his blog, it's hilarious) mentioned in his blog the other day, I don't like anonymous reviews. I'd like to know who is reviewing my work so that I at least know if it's legitimate and/or credible. That's about all I've got for today. Hopefully no one pulls any cruel jokes on you (or me) today. Remember, it's all fun and games until someone gets hurt. |
...if they don't win it's a shame. Well, they didn't win and it truly was a shame! It's the start of the 2008 baseball season. I always love this time of year. Baseball is my absolute favorite sport. The start of the season also means that summer is just around the corner (FINALLY). It's a bittersweet start to the 2008 season for me. Bitter because my team, the Phillies, lost their home opener today (I'm not surprised, they always seem to lose the opener). But it's also sweet because President Bush got booed at the Nats home opener last night. That was AWESOME! For those of you that missed it, check it out. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qHUAsTrl4JI&feature=related |

One of the local radio stations does a segment called "stupid news". It's usually just your basic stories about idiots, like someone who robbed a bank but the note he passed to the bank teller was written on the back of the deposit slip he used and had his bank account number on it (DUH). Anyway, I thought I'd try my own version of "stupid news" today. Enjoy and Happy Friday! http://news.aol.com/story/_a/ear-for-ear-justice-for-statue-vandal/2008032715370... (a Finnish tourist may have his ear cut off for taking a piece of a statue from Easter Island) http://www.cnn.com/2008/US/03/27/nipple.ring.ap/index.html (a woman was forced to remove her nipple ring with a pair of pliers - OUCH - in order to board an airplane) And last, but certainly not least, my husband and I (and many people we know) were stuck in this last night, although I think this falls under "crazy, stupid news": http://www.nbc10.com/news/15730009/detail.html?dl=mainclick |

This was my horoscope today: Fast action is required today. There is a problem that needs to be fixed, and it needs to be fixed as soon as possible -- before it gets too big to attack. So be sure to have whatever tools you need to have right on hand. Be ready to use them whenever and wherever they're necessary. You need to concentrate on forward motion in your life, not on backward glances. You have no time to waste deliberating over the best way to improve a less than perfect situation. What kind of crap-ass horoscope is that anyway? I must say, it does sum up how my day went though. I got a call from my lawyer today about the lawsuit for the car accident my mom was in the year before she died (for more info on this, see my blog entry "Invalid Entry" ). The piece of shit that's suing hasn't made a decision yet. He has 30 days from March 6th to do that. His lawyer, however, is seeking information on my mom's estate for the punitive damages. We're actually trying to get that thrown out because it's just absurd. Anyway, now I have to go through all of the paperwork of everything I did for my mom's estate. Let me tell you, there's a shitload of files, paperwork, you name it. I have to prove that the estate was closed out, prior to being served for this lawsuit. That won't be a problem to prove but it just makes me mad. Does anyone else think this is complete bullshit? This worthless piece of garbage isn't even hurt. The arbitrators said at the arbitration hearing that they only found 1 of his claims to be credible and even though they found it credible, they don't find it as bad as he's claiming it is. But they still said $50,000. I think that's more or less to just make him go away. What more could he possibly want? And what does he think I have? I'm not rich. My mother had nothing. She had only lived in her house for 1 year so at closing, the check for selling went to the mortgage company to pay that off. The attorneys think that this low-life got one look at me and thought he hit the motherload. Great. So just because I look nice and take care of myself, that means I have money that this fucker can go after? I just want this to be over! I'm done with it. I'm starting to feel like I'll never be done handling things for the estate. It's complete and utter bullshit. Now that I've vented , I feel much better. I'll leave you with some lyrics that I feel are appropriate right now (I left out the chorus). If ever you feel like you're tired And all your uphill struggles leave you headed downhill If you realize your wildest dreams can hurt you And your appetite for pain has drunken its fill I ask of you a very simple question Did you think for one minute that you are alone, And is your suffering a privilege you share only, Or did you think that everybody else feels completely at home? If you think I've given up on you, you're crazy And if you think I don't love you, well, then you're just wrong In time you just might take to feeling better Time is the beauty of the road being long I know that you feel no consolation But maybe if I told you and informed you out loud I say this without fear or hesitation I can honestly tell you that you make me proud If anything I might have just said has helped you If anything I might have just said helped you just carry on Your rise uphill may no longer seem a struggle And your appetite for pain may all but be gone I hope for you and cannot stop at hoping Until that smile has once again returned to your face There's no such thing as a failure who keeps trying Coasting to the bottom is the only disgrace "Just Wait" by Blues Traveler Music & Lyrics by John Popper I highlighted the line, "I can honestly tell you that you make me proud" for a reason. I have 2 older brothers but my dad always told me that he was more proud of me than anyone else in this world. He also used to tell me that he knew he'd never have to worry about me because I was his 'strong one'. If he were still alive I'd tell him, "Sometimes, daddy, I don't feel very strong." |
I got this from a co-worker. This is definitely not for cat lovers. I will warn you, it's addictive. My high score so far is 1,599. http://www.addictinggames.com/kittencannon.html |
The death toll of US soldiers killed in Iraq reached 4,000 yesterday. http://www.latimes.com/news/nationworld/world/la-fg-iraq24mar24,0,4102618.story You should also check out the list at http://icasualties.org/oif/. Hearing that 4,000 were killed is one thing but seeing the list of names of all 4,000 killed is quite another. I knew a marine that was killed there a little over 3 years ago: Killed in Action: 11/15/04 Name: Marc Ryan Rank: Corporal Age: 25 Service Branch: U.S. Marine Cause of Death: hostile fire/explosion Where: Ramadi Hometown: Gloucester City, NJ When will it end? How many more families have to lose a son, a daughter, a father, a mother, a husband, a wife, a brother, a sister...or a friend? |
Happy Easter everyone! I hope the Easter bunny gave you all a little something extra in your Easter basket. I, unfortunately, got a broken toe (I think) for Easter. It happened yesterday while I was volunteering for the annual Easter soccer tournament that my husband runs. Oh well, it's not like I haven't had broken toes before. No big deal. Here's something interesting/fun/exciting. I got an e-mail last night on my poem "Invalid Item" . Here is the actual e-mail: In an e-mail from larryp on 3/22/08 at 9:21pm: Hi Julie I reviewed the revised version of this poem a few weeks ago. A friend's mom sent out an e-mail with descriptions of each sign in the Zodiac. She mentioned in the e-mail, that mine (Gemini) described me perfectly. Just thought I'd share... Gemini, the sign of the Twins, is dual-natured, elusive, complex and contradictory. On the one hand it produces the virtue of versatility, and on the other the vices of two-facedness and flightiness. They are affectionate, courteous, kind, generous, and thoughtful towards the poor and suffering - provided none of the activities resulting from expressing these traits interferes too greatly with their own lives and comforts. Most Gemini have a keen, intuitive, sometimes brilliant intelligence and they love cerebral challenges. But their concentration, though intense for a while, does not last. Their mental agility and energy give them a voracious appetite for knowledge from youth onward. They easily grasp almost everything requiring intelligence and mental dexterity, and are often able to marry manual skills to their qualities of mind. Their intellect is strongly analytical and sometimes gives them so great an ability to see both sides of a question that they vacillate and find it hard to make decisions. But their intelligence may very well be used to control and unify the duality of their natures into a most efficient unit. If faced with difficulties, they have little determination to worry at a problem until they find a solution - they will pick the brains of others. In their intellectual pursuits, as in other departments of their lives, they risk becoming dilettantes, losing themselves in too many projects which they follow until they become difficult. Even at their worst they are never dull - there is usually playfulness below the surface, and they can be brilliant conversationalists - but they can also be quarrelsome. In business any work which combines quick-wittedness with a change of surroundings suits them; working as a traveling salesperson, brokerage work, or dealing with the public in any capacity is right up their alley. Because they are dispassionate, logical, rational and analytical they make good scientists, especially in the fields of medicine and astronomy. Astrologers broadly agree that the following are the characteristics of Gemini: Active, adaptable, articulate, communicative, brilliant, creative, inquisitive, intellectual, charming, multitasking, nimble, entertaining, upbeat, versatile, whimsical, witty, workaholic, thoughtful, straight-forward, social, talkative, mercurial, open-minded, experimental, joyful, eloquent, youthful, brave, free-spirited, attention-loving, playful, out-going, adventurous, broad-minded, mind oriented, spontaneous, verbal, risk-taker, friendly, dynamic, enthusiastic, perceptive, eccentric Ideal Careers Actor/actress, architect, archaeologist, comedian, teacher, model, play writer, diplomat, public speaker, author, psychologist, poet, journalist, lawyer, movie writer or director, debator or politician. Likes Talking, the unusual, teaching, learning, different things in life, multiple projects all going at once, traveling, making jokes, jet-setting Dislikes Feeling tied down, losing, being wrong, being in a bad situation, mental inaction, being alone, not getting credit for their successes Love Signs most compatible with Gemini are Aries, Taurus, Leo and Sagittarius. Hmmm...wonder if I should be concerned that my husband is a Cancer which, apparently, is not one of my compatible signs? LOL |
Yes, you read that title correctly. Yesterday at lunch, one of my co-workers came over in to my cube. She had just been in the cafeteria getting some water and noticed that one of the guys sitting there eating his lunch had a severe case of plumbers crack. The "offender" is a very nice guy so my co-worker came over to me and was telling me that she wasn't sure if she should somehow discreetly tell him or just hope the situation rectifies itself soon enough. I, personally, would not have said anything. She ended up not saying anything either. My question is, what exactly is the obligation here? Should we tell people if they have plumbers crack or have something in their teeth or if they've got toilet paper stuck to their shoe when they come out of the restroom? I honestly don't understand this whole plumbers crack thing. I mean, don't you feel a draft down there or something? That's all I've got for now. Happy Good Friday all! TGIF!! |

Does anyone watch this show? I'm hooked on it. I just finally got to watch this week's and last week's episode. I have to record them. I can't watch them when my husband is around because he's a chicken. I've always had an interest in the paranormal. I find things that can't be easily explained quite fascinating. Well, folks, sorry this one is short and sweet. It's been another crazy day and I'm still not feeling well. I'm off to bed. 'Night!! |
Today was weird for lack of a better way to put it. Traffic was worse than usual (and it's usually horrible). I also have extremely bad cramps. I'm not exactly the type to get moody at that time of the month, although I think I'm entitled. I have some serious problems with the plumbing to the point where I've had 3 operations for all this stuff and I've even ended up in the hospital on numerous occasions just because I got my period. And I almost died from it 11 years ago after one of those surgeries went terribly wrong. Yes, it's really that bad. All day today, people kept asking me if I was OK. Again, I wasn't moody or anything but people could tell just by looking at me that I didn't feel well. The day continued to get even more strange. There was a commotion in work over by one of our other teams. It turns out they found 2 HUGE cockroaches (ew, I'm such a girl when it comes to bugs). These things were so big that the person who first spotted them out of the corner of their eye, thought they were mice! WTF??!!!! I work in the city, in a high-rise building that's over a restaurant. I understand these things happen but I don't want to know about it. One of these behemoth roaches was killed by a co-worker. The other one got away. Comforting thought, isn't it? An exterminator was called but all day everyone was on edge expecting this thing to rear it's ugly head again. Oh God, I hate bugs! This one takes the cake. I got a letter in the mail yesterday from my dad's pension fund. My dad was still working when he passed away so he never got to collect his pension. When he died, it went to my mom. My mom died almost 3 years ago. It'll be 3 years on April 30th. This letter from my dad's pension fund stated that they were recently notified of my mom's death and that my brother's and I were listed as beneficiaries. What really annoyed me was that, yes, they were notified of my mom's death. I was the one that notified them of her death, in writing, 3 years ago when she actually died. At that time, I was told that my mom was listed as the beneficiary of my dad's penion but then she died and then that was it. I called them today to find out what the hell was going on. The woman I talked to said that they'd been sending letters to my mom's address for the last 3 years and hadn't gotten any response. Hmmm, I can't imagine why, can you? Then they finally found my address and sent the notice to me. That's funny since I provided them with my contact information in that letter I sent them 3 years ago with the copy of my mom's death certificate and short certificate. I'll be sure to include copies of those when I send back the form they sent me yesterday. Nothing annoys me more than stupid people, except stupid, incompetent people. I swear there must be a full moon or something this week! |
I'm so tired. I didn't sleep much last night. I'm partied out from the weekend. Of course, since it's St. Patrick's Day, we also went out for a few drinks and some dinner after work tonight. It would have been very un-Irish of us not to. I'm off to bed. Just wanted to wish everyone a Happy St. Patrick's Day (what's left of it anyway)! I'll write more tomorrow. Goodnight! |
It's Sunday morning. It's been another busy week and an even busier weekend. It was another good weekend though. A St. Patrick's Day party Friday afternoon & night with co-workers, a baby shower Saturday afternoon (that I didn't really want to go to) and another St. Patrick's Day party Saturday night with some friends and family. Today will be spent doing the normal "Sunday stuff". You know, cleaning, laundry, food shopping and running errands, etc. Then it's back to work tomorrow. It's St. Patrick's Day tomorrow so the city will be a sight. I work near many bars so there will be tons of people around, partaking in the St. Patrick's Day festivities. Then, next week is Easter. Already! My husband coaches soccer here in town. He's also the president of the soccer board. Next weekend is their annual Easter tournament. I'll be helping out with that again. Whatever happened to being able to relax on weekends? |
It's FRIDAY!! I don't know about all of you but I've been more exhausted than usual this week. I don't know if it's the time change, stress or both. I'm so happy today is Friday. It's going to be a great day and a pretty good weekend too. Busy, but good. I had a chair massage at work yesterday. Once a year they are brought in to give us free massages. Even though it was only 10 minutes, I was so relaxed for the rest of the day. I even slept well last night, which is unusual. I have trouble sleeping. I always have. In fact, I was so relaxed, that I just didn't want to get out of bed this morning. Wait, that's every morning! Now I'm in the mood for a real massage...from a spa. I think I'm going to schedule one. I haven't had one since my birthday, which is in June. That's too long to go without a massage! Anyway, today will be a good day. We're having a St. Patrick's Day party. That starts at 3:00. It's the reason I had to make my Irish Cream the other night. It's going to be so much fun! Enjoy your Friday! |
