| Prompt: Do you think our society has gotten too politically correct? Is there even such a thing as being too politically correct? Share your opinions on this topic. I remember a time when PC, just referred to the computer you were using. Man in his infinite wisdom has gathered in a corner and decided they were going to control speech and boom we have political correctness. Being politically correct has gone too far. It is now being used as a means of finding one more thing to be offended by and adding it to the list of PC no-nos. The concept is now hindering so many areas of our lives that no matter where you are, you see the result of "PC mania". Even football teams are being assailed to change their names to a more generic term. I grew up watching the classic pig skin battles between the Cowboys and the Redskins; sometimes the Cowboy's won and sometimes the Redskins won. The players on each team never even considered that one day their names would become offensive to anyone. It is merely a name of two teams who have had a rivalry for decades and who still show good sportsmanship and the end of every game. It's the game of football that they love and no one worried about whether anyone else would be offended by playing Cowboys and Indians on the grid-iron. Do children even play Cowboys and Indians anymore? Have their parents stopped buying cap guns and bow and arrow sets? We don't have children; nor is my wife able to with all of her medical maladies. This inquiring mind wants to know. I don't think the original intention of PC was to hamstring people to the point that they are afraid of speaking their minds, for fear of offending someone or stepping on the toes of this group or that. Here is a definition of PC. Description of the practice of using speech that conforms to liberal or radical opinion by avoiding language which might cause offence to or disadvantage social minorities.1 If you look at this definition you see that it is legalese. It's politically born and yet it is now spreading it's tendrils into the lives of the citizens who once had fun playing games and are now afraid of getting chastised for this or that from political groups who are stretching the definition to their advantage. When I say PC, ninety-nine percent of the time I'm talking about my computer. It's the one percent that started the PC movement who is mucking things up. Oh wait mucking is too wimpy a word; however I will not print the colorful language word that so many people throw around. Political correctness will eventually paint itself into a corner and collapse on itself, because it is becoming political weaponry and not a tool to help people think before they speak or act. You are important to God; your loved ones; the WdC and Copenator out! P.S. If you are offended by me calling you "beloved", I cannot do a thing about it, because the word "beloved" comes from my heart and that's the truth. | Mary Wollstonecraft Shelly had a dream in the summer of 1816 that later became the story for Frankenstein. Have you ever said, done, or written something that you say in a dream? If so, what was it and how did you use it? If not, what kind of creation do you think you could come up with in a dream and why? I mostly don't remember my dreams. I do remember one night having to get out of bed at 5 in the morning to write 2 pieces on abortion (one a song, the other a story), and after I did that, I returned to sleep and had the deepest sleep I've ever had. Whether it was a dream that started the writing, I cannot be sure, but it's as close as I've been to being inspired by a dream. Oh wait I do remember another time that I was on a trip with a campus mission group (Baptist Student Union or BSU), and I was asleep dreaming and I was awakened to write a little piece that I later read to the group when they were awake. It was literally decades ago when I was in college (Mary Hardin-Baylor in Belton, Texas). I still don't remember the dream that sparked the awakening, but I do know it was inspired by the dream. Other than that, I think that's the only time. We Are His Children is the name of the piece I wrote and if I can find it amid all the journals I have, I'll put it up here one day. Thx for bringing back a good memory from my college days with this prompt. |
| Prompt: Have you ever been to a palm reader or fortune teller? If so, what did they tell you? If not, would you be interested in doing it? Do you believe in this sort of thing? Why or why not? No I've never been to a palm reader or fortune teller. No I would not be interested in doing it because I do not believe in them. I believe in the King of kings and Lord of lords, and His Holy Word condemns these practices and other things along with it. I do not think they are able to predict the future. They may be able to make a good approximation, or come close in their interpretations by using the skills they have honed over the time they have done reading or fortune telling. I will not participate in a practice that I do not hold faith in. I will not condemn them; however; because I am not the judge of their actions. In the end, they will have to face the one true judge, and that cannot be avoided. You are beloved; important to Gpd; the WdC and Copenator out! B.C.O.Frs united! |
| DAY 1000: August 12, 2015 "Blogging Circle of Friends " is celebrating 1000 days today. Write a poem, short story or something about how to celebrate a 1000 anniversary. One thousand days, oh what a milestone. I remember when this was first formed and a lot of the blogs I have in here were a result of those earlier prompts. The founder of the group was always so open and caring. I think a great way to celebrate 1000 days is to shoot for another thousand. Or you could have a blog-a-thon where one person starts the blog and it just mushrooms into a day full of blogs. Or we can have a 1 day raffle and all the proceeds would go to the group or contest leader who needs it the most. Maybe 5 % could go to the winner so the majority would go straight to the group. I am thankful the group is still viable and dearly missed it when I had to leave the group due to no internet access or very limited access for long stretches of time. | Typhoon Soudelor Ravaged Saipan and on Saturday dumped heavy rain causing power outages to over a million people. How important do you think social media's role is in situations like these? Do you think they help or make things worse? Social media can be used to stir up trouble and in the case of disasters; natural and man-made; the media can become a distraction and cause more harm than good. I think thee is a time and place for social media. When weather events occur, I do believe there should be all avenues available to those in the midst of the disaster. It is vital for information to be distributed accurately and on a timely basis. The important thing to remember about disasters that are going on at any given moment; involves individuals who are in a life threatening situation. They should become the focus and not having media introducing expert after expert, airing the same scene over and over. The media needs to become the conduit that those in the midst of disaster can use to help them avoid the brunt of the onslaught. People are important and when we put them first, over selling the next big thing in between spots of reporters hanging-ten or clinging to a stop light post; we have a better setting to work from. Social media has a responsibility to the people to be there to serve them and keep them informed. For without people using social media, there would be no one to listen to the news stations, read twitter or facebook either. Yes social media can be a help or a hindrance. | Talk about one of your best memories. I was looking for another church to attend. I had just completed a charity walk and had experienced the Lord's provision just when it was needed the most. This was a Walk America event at White Rock Lake, back when the route was 30 kilometers or 18 + miles. If you live in the Dallas Forth Worth, Metroplex area, you know all about White Rock Lake. Back to my best memory. I attended this church because the pastor visited me and that made an impression on me. I was being introduced around in the class rooms and met this lady, and out of the blue I heard the Lord say; "this will be your wife." Of course it took me 6 months to get up the nerve to even ask Rhonda out, but as they say the rest is history because we have been together for 27 years and on to 28 this coming Christmas day. The pastor married us in 1987, and he is still alive and living in Austin, Texas. We still write him from time to time. Thanks for a good trip down memory lane.
