Dream Catchers An ancient Chippewa tradition The dream net has been made For many generations Where spirit dreams have played. Hung above the cradle board, Or in the lodge up high, The dream net catches bad dreams, While the good dreams slip on by. Bad dreams become entangled Among the sinew thread. Good dreams slip through the center hole, While you dream upon your bed. This is an ancient legend, Since dreams will never cease, Hang this dream net above your bed, Dream on, an be at peace. |
This story isn't one that I think was repeated much other than in my own mind. It is the most distinct memory that I have. My mother was an avid reader and writer. Every week she would scoope me up and take off to the library. We lived about a mile away and the only way for her to get there—was walk. To her it was well worth the effort. I was lucky, I got to ride in the stroller. What I remember the most about entering the library was the smell! Oh the books smelled so good! I also remember that when she was done, I got to hold the books and sniff them all the way home. BUT what is really funny about this story is...to this day I can not check out or buy a book without sniffing it first. It all began with a stroller ride. Kristina |
