A poem I wrote for an elderly friend after his wife died

Thank you stacylynn71 for the pretty white ribbon!

For Red

Don’t cry for me, my darling
Don’t shed a tear or two
Although our time is over
And my Earth journey is through.

I am fine my lovely, so
Stand strong and have no fear.
And I thought you’d like to know
What life is like up here.

When our Timmy died at seven
How we missed his boyish charms.
He ran calling, “Mommy!”
As he rushed into my arms.

Your mom and dad are here as well
And mine are too, you see.
In heaven’s splendor we all dwell
Anxiously awaiting thee.

The streets are fully lined with gold
The houses made of glass
On not one house you’ll find a door
So love can freely pass.

The skies up here are bluest blue
The grasses greenest green.
The roses of the reddest hue
That you have ever seen.

The daisies are the purest white
And rainbows fill the skies.
At night what twinkles oh so bright
Not stars but fireflies.

The children always playing
Through the fields they dance and leap.
When evening comes they’re praying
For your safety while you sleep.

The angels play their harps until
We close our eyes and dream.
The nighttime silence nearly still
Till we wake up again.

We rise to hear birds chirping
All day long they serenade us
No despair here, hope usurping
Spirits finally free,

and thus…

Come join us when you can, my sweet
Don’t fear the sting of death
Our family will then be complete

Sincerely,
Your Wife Beth
