About the increasing incidences of campus shootings in the USA.
A STUDENT PICKS A GUN: a sonnet

When life is a purposeless existence
When mirror of the future shows nothing,
When everybody just keeps up pretence;
No ray of hope does the new sunrise bring;

Then what do the students feel in their heart?
They get disenchanted, don’t want to live.
A vile chain of thoughts in their mind does start:
“Bullets to the society we shall give”.

So one morning a student picks a gun
And starts shooting whoever is around.
The job done, from the scene he does not run.
He shoots himself, a way of exit found.

When life is too materialistic,
Then morals to the conscience do not stick.
