This started as a poem about springtime
I began these lines many times,
I tried to write spring’s perfect rhymes:
Colored blossoms release perfumes.
The problem was the simile
It resembled a homily:
Insects swarm to attractive blooms.
Instead of giving up the quest,
I reuse the lines that were best:
Perhaps I should have used mushrooms.

Line count: 9
Form: Nove Otto is a 9-line poem with 8 syllables per line and a rhyme scheme of a, a, c, b, b, c, d, d, c.
