Sometimes working with kids can be a hassle. But really, it is worth it.

Working with Kids- A Blessing, or a Curse?

Screaming, shouting, it's a disaster zone.

Screeching, laughing, actually,

it's a happy mixture of sounds

Are those wild animals

making those noises?

No.

It's just the summer art camp kids.

Five days a week, and

for the rest of the summer,

the smell of acrylics will haunt you.

Follow your every move.

You'll smell like an art museum.

The sharp sting

of a slip of the hot glue gun,

the subsequent numbness, you can't feel what

you touch with your index finger.

When the glue is so heavy in the air

that it coats your tongue

and you can taste it

over the coffee you drank for

much needed energy that morning,

run.

It's Papier-MhDay.

But then you see their smiles,

superhero capes, painted faces,

the wonderful art they've made.

No matter how exhausting,

or how many times your

patience wore thin.

When you see the small feet skip away,

sneak a taste of the secret leftover candy,

feel the kids' hugs to their favorite teen volunteer,

smell the air freshener of a finally clean room,

hear the door close behind the last kid.

it's another summer well spent.

(But thank god it's over.)
