A LONELY ROAD

There is a lonely road ahead of you
where footprints do not mar the grass,
where broken souls have traveled
the tangled, twisted mass.

No other travelers on the road,
no smiles to welcome you, no greeting;
where truth is bittersweet, at best,
and life can be so fleeting.

Pause awhile and look down the road,
you'll find no pleasure there -
then turn back from whence you came
to the ones who really care.

You may not change the yesterdays
which were so full of sorrow,
but you can change the way you see
each shining new tomorrow.

For God has promised better days
and a lightening of your load;
turn back to Him who loves you still
and leave a lonely road.
