Make Your Activity Mark

So often, we talk about writing. This month, I'd like to talk about some activities so you can create fun things for other people on the site to enjoy.

The most fascinating, and honestly the absolute best, part of WdC is the fact that every single person can use their uniqueness and imagination to create and inspire everyone around them. There are so many ways to inspire participation from those around you. I want to introduce a few ways you can inspire participation in those around you here, and then I would like you to send them to me.

If you make some kind of interactive activity for others on the site to participate in, submit it into the Write Into This Newsletter! section. If it's of a good quality, I'll include it in the next newsletter.

Do you have some interactive ideas you have always thought would make the site better? Maybe one of these would be perfect for implementing them!

*BulletB* You can create a contest using the "Forum" item type.

Make sure that if you make a contest, you think through the rules very
carefully, and when you judge the contest, you follow every one of your own rules. Look through some other contests on the site for some ideas on how to run them before jumping in. This one takes, by far, the MOST work and patience, but it is well worth it!

*BulletB* You can create a "Campfire Creative"

Oh my goodness, these are so much fun! Everyone gets to take a turn,
and you never know where the story will go. Once everyone has had a turn, you go around again. You can create rules, and the person in charge has the final say, but writing a story with friends is so much more fun than writing a story all by yourself!

*BulletB* Create a "Crossword Puzzle"

Really, if you hadn't found them yet, the site has crossword puzzles!
And you can create them, or solve them! Some days, just doing a little puzzle is the best way to relax. You can create one with your favorite theme, or about your favorite novel or book series, or just to have fun!

*BulletB* Create a "Madlib"

These were some of my favorites as a kid, so having them on the site made me so excited. There are some great ones out there! Or, if you have a great sense of humor, don't be afraid to make your own!

*BulletB* Create a "Word Search"

Like the others, you can use your favorite theme and create a puzzle for your friends. Just have fun!

*BulletB* Create an "Interactive Story"

These are great! Every person actually adds a new chapter, and new ways to branch in different directions - so each new person who goes through the story can make choices. And if they come upon an empty chapter, they get the opportunity to write the new chapter based on the choice they wanted to see. So, anyone on the site can contribute to your fun story!

I look forward to seeing your contributions to this site! Every contribution made is another way that members of the site can interact with the site, with one another, or even just take a brain *Brain* break for a moment. (And we all need those on occasion!)

Ask & Answer

In my last newsletter, "Noticing Newbies Newsletter (December 18, 2019), I got the following feedback:

hbk16 said:

These are important advice on how to render a scene grabbed by a reader. The sentences should be short. The descritpions should be short and clear. The text should be fluent. It is here well emphasized. Good job!

Thanks so much, and I hope it was helpful! ~SJ
