About This Newsletter

Summer arrives on June 20, 2025. We are already experiencing triple digit temperatures.

Letter from the editor

There are four types of myths, all can be used to write a story or poem about summer. Astrological or Etiological myths explain why something occurs. Chthonic concerns the underworld. Cosmogonic are creation myths.

Several mythologies contain seasonal gods and goddesses. These stories give information about the god or goddess and, sometimes, about why the season occurs. These myths are interesting and inspiring.

Gods of summer: Trey, a Valid, is also the god of fertility. Laugh is the Celtic god of summer. Emesh is the Sumerian god.

Goddesses of summer: Aine is the Irish goddess, while Aestas is the Roman goddess. Another summer goddess is Auro.

Have you ever written a poem, short story, or novel about a seasonal myth? If so, let us know.
