Dispite the cold and snow half of the country is experiencing it has more to do with global warming then a ground hogs.
One of the myths of February is the ground hog's ability to predict the weather. This is a leftover from a less technical time. Farmers needed something to help them when planting crops. So the ground hog became one of those predictors.
Other myths are Friday the 13th being bad luck and Saint Valentine. While Saint Valentine, himself was a real individual, the day itself has taken on a whole new meaning. Saint Valentine was a symbol of the love of God. Today Saint Valentine Day celebrates physical love.
This February we are fortunate to have three myths to inspire our writing. We have Ground Hogs Day, Friday the 13th, and Saint Valentine Day, so we should be able to think up some interesting plots.
