Talking about life and turning it into ideas for stories and poems.
It was LostGhost: Seeking & Learning that inspired me to start a BLOG/PLOG. I constantly have ideas flooding my mind, at least most of the time. However, sometimes I'm like anyone else and suffer from the dreaded writers block. When that happens, I can come back here to a journal of interesting topics and lists of words fit to inspire the worst best poet.

Please join me as I blog about life and plog about poetry. It's all combined into one for your inspirational needs. Feel free to use anything as inspiration for yourself. Settle in and stay awhile. Visit with Angelica. Maybe she'll be as demanding awesome with you as she is with me!

My Muse

My muse is a poetry pixie dressed in pink
Yes, from her inspiring potions I plan to drink
Many nights she whispers words of inspiration
Until one night I need her and she leaves me in frustration
She is a clever little imp, full of spice and sugar
Even with her attitude, I’ll keep the little bugger

As always, when the year closes, and a new year looms ahead, my mind focuses on what things I've accomplished this year and what my goals will be for the next year. At the beginning of 2012, there was a beautiful clean slate that filled me with possibilities. So let's see what has been completed, and what I need to do for the year ahead.

As anyone of a creative mind knows, your drawers, folders, etc. are always filled with UFO's or unfinished objects. You see, my creative muse (Angelica) has ADD. Just as I start one thing, she compels me to start something else. So, I think that I might need to send Angelica on a mini vacation so that I can get some work done.

When I began this year, I thought that I would finish writing one book that God had laid on my heart, but God obviously had other ideas for me. Since then I found writing.com, and my life has changed forever. I have learned so much about storytelling, poetry writing, and online friendships. This is the most giving community I have ever seen. Writers are some of the best people I have ever met!

I have started more than ten different books this year. I have finished four of them. My plan is to finish at least four more books that I've started. I also plan to continue with my poetry writing, and research some of my family history. My grandmother is 94 years old, and can still tell me many of her childhood stories. I want to incorporate a few of these into some semi-fictional stories. I mostly want to talk about the romance between her and grandpa. Their's is a love story for the ages.

I plan to continue helping out and supporting this great community in any way I can. Of course, I will continue with the few activities, contests, and groups that I've started and belong to. I want to continue learning. One that stops learning tends to move backwards instead of forward.

After my muse returns from her vacation all rested and ready to go, then who knows what projects we might start. That's the beauty of having a new year and new beginnings. It's a clean slate that we fill the whole year long. Will we fill it with exciting new challenges or with regrets? If we listen to our muse, then it should be filled with wonderful accomplishments!

The children have all gone to bed. The lights are off. I have my favorite drink on my side table, and I'm relaxing with an old friend. My friend has kept me comfortable after two knee surgeries, snuggles me when I'm sick, and wraps it's arms around me when I need a hug. My old friend is a cozy recliner that is molded to me. No one else generally sits in my recliner because they know it just doesn't fit them the same.

So, sitting with my old friend, I grab my laptop and sometimes I turn on the table lamp. I have my iPod next to me, and sometimes I play some light music. I sit back and close my eyes to clear my mind. That's when my friend pulls me in a little tighter and I feel secure. The ambiance has been created, the house is quiet, and I begin to write.

I have visions of a peaceful, clutter free, writing studio. It must have an ocean view, of course. I would be able to sit on the terrace and listen to the waves lapping up on the shore. But inside my studio I must have my old friend. It goes with me no matter where I go.

I also think of a little cabin in the woods. Maybe it would be near a waterfall. I love listening to water. The air is cool and fresh. The frogs are croaking, the crickets are chirping, and the katydids are calling their mates. In my little cabin I have a little nook, and in the little nook I have my old friend. I cannot write without my friend. It goes with me no matter where I go.

Looking at my world, I don't feel unique or special. I'm a mom with two kids, two dogs, and a husband. I live in an average house in an average community. I have an old car that carries me around town. It's nothing that would catch anyone's attention, that is unless we have neglected to wash it for awhile. But late at night, when everyone is asleep, and all the lights are off, I sit in front of my laptop, and suddenly, I'm a little different from everyone else. I don't know how my writing is unique, but I know that writing makes me feel special. I love writing, and I'm always trying new things. I don't think I have a particular style. I do know that many people have said that my devotional book made them feel like I was right there with them having a conversation. They said that my style was easy and comfortable to read.

After I change my hat, and switch to poetry, I could be all over the map with style. I write articles, short stories, and even novella's. So what makes my writing unique? Okay, I know I'm stalling. *Rolleyes* You will never see a curse word in any of my work. You will never see me degrade God. Though I may not always write in a Christian genre, a Christian could read most of my work without getting offended. I don't write any type of detailed love scenes, and that goes the same way for killing scenes.

My final answer is that I am unique as a writer because no one else is me. They haven't had my exact experiences. Oh, they may share similarities here or there, but they haven't had my exact life. As writers, we draw up those life experiences and the essence of them are felt within our writing. My writing is unique because I am unique!

It's so funny that we had the prompt "downsizing" for the Blogging Blitz. As a team, we are all writing on various ways to downsize, and my assignment is ways to cut your budget. I am going to focus on cutting your Christmas budget.

It seems that every year our Christmas list gets longer as our pocket book becomes smaller. This year in particular, we are very tight, with both my husband and I on disability, it is hard to think of ways to come up with extra money for this time of the year. We have resorted to cleaning up the clutter and selling things on Craig's list. Not that it's a big deal. We need to clean up the clutter! *Rolleyes* My husband tends to be a pack rat.

I don't know what gave me the idea. I have never decoupaged anything before. So, I was sitting here in my chair one night, and I was eating the thing that is my biggest weakness right now... chocolate covered almonds. My hubby get's them for me at Dollar General as a treat. While munching on these almonds, I happened to be looking through a catalog that was filled with Christmas ribbons, stockings, Santa's, fun words, etc. Then it hit me. I looked to see how easily the cover would come off the can. It was made of cardboard on the out side, and the wrapper was barely glued. So, I got very excited and called my eight year old daughter over, and showed her my idea. I have a ton of these cans, we have a bunch of free catalogs, so let's make a pretty decoupaged can. The material is virtually free. You cut out all the pictures you can find. I will also use some tissue paper I have on hand. With a 50/50 mixture of water and glue, I will paint this all around the outside of the can. I will paint it on the back of the first paper I want to add, stick it on the can, then paint the glue mix over it. Continue with this process until you have cover the entire can. It's okay to overlap the edges a little bit because you can come back later and trim them off with a craft knife or very sharp scissors. If you want to give this project more of a painted look, then cover the finished product with between 3 and 10 coats of a glaze or varnish, making sure you let it dry completely in between each coat. This will also make the can last longer. If you want to keep it simple, use the decoupage glue a couple of extra times just to give it a nice seal. Finally I will make chocolate covered pretzels, and fill the cans with them. There you have it! A super inexpensive beautiful Christmas gift that was done from the heart. For more decoupage ideas, do a search online and you will be amazed at what you will find. You can decoupage just about anything!

There are many fun crafts that use materials you keep on hand. I make jewelry, so I have a ton of beads, wire, hooks, clasps, and tools needed to make such things. However, did you know you could make simple earrings with just four paperclips and round nose pliers? It would help if you had some flat nose pliers, too, but it's not necessary. Take all four paperclips and straighten them out completely. Make a small closed loop at the end of two of them. Move about a third of the way up the wire, using the largest part of the round nose pliers bend the wire almost in half. This will form the french hooks, the part that goes in your ear. Take the next two wires and make the same type of closed loop at the end of them that you did with your hooks. Now, starting at the opposite end, and going in the opposite direction of the first loop, start a second loop. This will be the beginning of a spiral. After the loop is make, using the pliers to help you, continue to turn the wire around and around until you come to the other end. This is your finished spiral. Gently open the closed loop on the end, moving the wire side to side instead of up and down, slip the loop through the loop on the corresponding hook. After they are joined, gently close the wire loop. With some practice, you will be making these earrings in just minutes, and everyone will be impressed with your beautiful hand made earrings. For a fun twist, try using various colors for your spirals. Try to always use the thinner silver coated ones for the ears. For additional ideas, visit www.jewelrylessons.com. Quick disclaimer: I am a teacher on this site and I do sell tutorials, but there are a ton of free or very inexpensive tutorials to teach you how to make jewelry. Many of them include ideas with using average household items.

As writers, we have other talents that we could use, and it will only cost a bit of imagination. I have written a poem for my Dad and my Brother. I am going to print them out, and put them in a frame that I got from the Dollar Tree. They actually have some very nice frames. I put a lot of time and thought into their poems, so just because it doesn't cost much monetarily, doesn't mean that it's a cheap gift. If you don't write poetry, think about writing a story just for the person you want to give a gift to. What about writing a beautiful article about their life? I have been gathering stories from my grandparents for years. Theirromantic beginnings seem to be straight out of an old black and white love story on television. Eventually, I want to write a biography on them. What a wonderful gift that would make for them, my dad and uncles, and even to my children.

So there you have it, several Christmas gift ideas that cost either pennies or nothing. If you have additional ideas, I would love to see them attached below in your comments.

For pictures of some of my jewelry, you may visit www.facebookcom/JewelryByMarci or visit my cNote store. "Invalid Item You will see that I often get spiral happy. *Laugh*

Though I went to public school most of my life, I spent my last year and a half at a Christian school. It was actually one of the best times that I can remember during my school days. Classes were small, and teachers were always pushing you to do your best. They really cared. However, my favorite teacher was my English teacher, though I can promise you that English was never my favorite subject! While in her class, I had to memorize a number of different poems, but it is only this and "The Road Not Taken" by Robert Frost that I can remember.

This poem touches my heart every time I think about it. The Devil wants nothing more than to abuse and accuse. (Side note: I'm going to have to use that in a poem some day.) However, the Son of God, Jesus, is "My Advocate". This was written by Martha Snell Nicholson.

I sinned. And straightway, post-haste Satan flew
Before the presence of the Most High God,
And made a railing accusation there.
He said, “This soul, this thing of clay and sod
Has sinned. ‘Tis true that he has named Thy name,
But I demand his death, for Thou hast said,
‘The soul that sinneth, it shall die!’ Shall not
Thy sentence be fulfilled? Is Justice dead'
Send now this wretched sinner to his doom.
What other thing can righteous ruler do?”
And thus he did accuse me day and night,
And every word he spoke, O God, was true!

Then quickly One rose up from God’s right hand,
Before Whose glory angels veiled their eyes.
He spoke, “Each jot and tittle of the law
Must be fulfilled: the guilty sinner dies!
But wait. Suppose his guilt were all transferred
To ME and that I paid his penalty!
Behold My hands, My side, My feet! One day
I was made sin for him, and died that he
Might be presented faultless, at Thy throne!”
And Satan fled away. Full well he knew
That he could not prevail against such love,
For every word my dear Lord spoke was true!

I still get goosebumps every time I recite or read this poem.

Now, I want to look at this poem from a technical stand point. This is a free verse poem. There are two stanza's with twelve lines each. There is no rhyme pattern. Each line has ten syllables. The rhythm and meter is iambic pentameter. This is a very well written poem that is well thought out in not only what it says, but how it is said. Read through the poem out loud to really get a full appreciation for the melodic cadence. I hope you enjoy!
Until next time... Live, Laugh, and Write!

Should everyone have a blog? The short answer is "no". However, since I have decided to write for the Blogging Blitz contest, I should probably elaborate on that a little more. *Wink*

In case you have been asleep for the past twenty or so years, a BLOG is short for web log. Essentially this is an online journal. Just know that whatever you write is available to the whole world, though that doesn't mean the whole world will want to read it. There are a couple of variations on this term. For example: I keep a PLOG, or a poetry log. In this journal I share all of the ideas that I have to get out of my head. I put these ideas in my PLOG to make them easy for me to find, but also, for my fellow poet friends to get inspiration from. Finally, there are VLOG's. These are video logs. There are people that run these on youtube.com, facebook, and now on podcasts.

The first thing that you need to have before you start a blog is something to say, and you must understand how to get online and find a place to set up said blog. I would guess this eliminates about half of the population. *Laugh* I don't have an exact statistic for that. It's just a made up number in my head. Now, unfortunately, I am not one of those people. Apparently, as I've been told by numerous family members, I came out of the womb talking. *Laugh* I'm sure that's a bit of an exaggeration, but the short of it is that I'm a talker. I have a little knowledge about a lot of things. That can be quite dangerous. *Wink*

On writing.com I have my Devotional blog, and then I have this writing plog. I have the same Devotional blog on facebook. I also run a couple of facebook pages, but this is a form of blogging for me. I run a page for Fibromyalgia Support, and I run a page for Homeschooling support, ideas, and teaching aids.

Thinking about facebook, many people that are on there don't need to be, thus backing up my point that not everyone needs to blog. *Laugh* Some people just get online to rant and rave. It's a form of outlet for them. That's fine, but I really don't enjoy reading everyone's drama. I have enough of my own drama to want to be involved in anyone else's.

As you can see, I am making light of this subject. I would never want to hurt person's feelings. If you desire to have a blog, then you are probably someone that should have a blog, but I know many people in the world who are not interested in writing a blog. That would eliminate some people as well. If you don't want to write, you shouldn't. Until next time, happy blogging! *Penp*

Normally when I post in this plog, I give a list of words along the subject I am speaking about in order to encourage ideas for poems, but also for short stories or anything else that you are inspired to do. Here is my list and if you use it for ideas, please leave a comment with a link. I would love to see it!

My muse is a Poetry Pixie dressed in Pink!

I often get comments about the line at the bottom of my signature. "My muse is a poetry pixie dressed in pink."

The first time I heard her was when I was about five. My mother always had a great supply of paper, glue, scissors, and crayons for me. She was quite encouraging where creativity was concerned. As I picked through the perfect colors and shapes, a pixie was whispering in my ear giving me great ideas. After that, any time I got out my art supplies, she would appear.

Around age eight or nine my mother taught me how to crochet. Now my muse began to appear more often. She now had two different activities in which to encourage me. It was shortly after that when my muse would appear even when I wasn't working on anything. She started whispering various ideas about colors and patterns using yarn.

I started playing the piano at age six, but as I continued into my teens my muse would whistle tunes in my ear and give me new lyrics. Though at the time, I never wrote it down, I wish now that I had. My family told me I couldn't carry a tune in a bucket, so I didn't think that it would be worth it to try to sing something. Shortly after that, though, a wonderful thing happened. My parents signed me up for voice lessons! Believe it or not, I have a passion for music that is even above that of writing. This must have inspired my muse to inspire me even more. Music gets us both excited!

Later in my teens, my mother taught me how to sew. By this time, my muse never left me. She constantly whispered ideas to me, and I often had a hard time keeping up. From sewing came my third passion... quilting! I have made more that fifty quilts. I still have several, but I have sold and gifted many. My mused started working double time. Many nights when I couldn't sleep, you would find me pouring over quilt patterns in order for me to start a new project.

After I was struck with a debilitating illness, I thought my muse had left me. What I think really happened was that I couldn't hear her through the walls of depression that I had built around me. She was ruthless, though. Somehow,. with her inspiration, I took a jewelry making class, and just like that I could hear her again.

I don't know what happened to my muse about eighteen months ago, but suddenly she insisted that I start to write. She bothered inspired me day and night until I could stand it no more. I had to write. So I wrote... and I wrote... and I wrote some more. I wrote my first book full of devotionals, and I thought that was it. I had surely satisfied my muse. Right? Well, if you know me, you know my muse is busier than ever. Have you seen my port? Since I didn't initially think about writing poetry, I wonder what led me in that direction. Recently, I found out the answer.

My muse is a poetry pixie dressed in pink!

PS... Without the encouragement of my mom and dad, my muse would never have been able to stay with me. I treasure all the things they did in order to foster my creative side!

The spooky days of October are behind us and it is time to focus on Thanksgiving here in the United States. I adore the month of November for a few reasons. First of all, on the 14th I share a birthday with my brother who is two years younger than me. It is a real blessing to enjoy this special day with him. The a couple weeks later we celebrate all the things we have to be thankful for. Throughout the month I hope to add to my list, but I could (and have) fill up many pages. If you would like to add your thankful thoughts below, please do share. You don't have to live in America in order to be thankful. In fact, I hope that some of my friends from other countries will still leave a little note as well.

First and foremost, I am thankful for my Savior Jesus Christ for dying on the cross for my sins, paying my debt in full and when I accepted His gift, He saved me.

I am thankful for my loving and supportive husband.
I am thankful that I have had him in my life for over sixteen years.
I am thankful that we will be married that long in December.
I am thankful that he has stayed with me in sickness and health, richer and poorer, and good times as well as bad.
I am thankful that we are just as attracted to each other as we were sixteen years ago and that sparks still fly when he kisses me! *Shock*

I am thankful for my son, Trae. He is twelve years old yet he loves and respects his mother.
I am thankful for the sweet goodnight kiss I always get.
I am thankful for his kindness and his helpfulness.

I am thankful for my beautiful daughter, Abby. She is my pride and joy.
I am thankful that she is so smart and loves to learn.
I am thankful that she has a servants heart and loves to help people.
I am thankful that she is so funny and entertaining. We wouldn't have nearly as much fun without her around! *Laugh*

I am thankful for my two little dogs, Maddie and Oreo. They entertain us a great deal as well. When I need a calming presence to help with anxiety, they are there for me to pet.
I am thankful that they are housebroken, and that they overall behave themselves.
I am thankful that they are very sweet and love everyone in our household.

I am thankful for my house.
I am thankful for my car.
I am thankful for my church.
I am thankful for my extended family and friends...

More later!

Tonight I watched The Voice on tv. I love that show! But that's not what I'm writing about in particular. If you've ever listened to CeeLo Green speak, you know he's such a flirt and a flatterer, but if you listen more closely you will hear so much more. I noticed a few weeks that he used quite a bit of alliteration when he was describing singers and their sounds. Then I also noticed at times he used consonance and assonance. I don't think I really noticed this so much before I started to write poetry. Tonight while watching, I heard him say something that was so poetic, I had to come here and share it.

"You made me dream with my eyes wide open..." ~CeeLo Green

I loved that! How often do we pay attention to others as they speak in order to find poetry? I find that I don't need to even search it out. It seems to draw me in when it happens. If you notice something poetic said by an artist, a friend, or whoever, please share it here. I will probably add to this post as the season of The Voice continues. I love to hear CeeLo talk!

"You are incomparable, original works of art..." ~CeeLo Green (talking about his artists)

I am still excited about the 31 Days of Halloween Contest. We have several great writers participating, and I love their spooky and fun stories. The prompts have been wonderful and challenging as well. It's really awesome how you can put up the prompt and everyone comes up with completely different ideas. The creativity is unbelievable. I have been sick, which makes it hard to concentrate, but I have some fun ideas I'm playing around with for my own poems or even short stories.

"I sat and stared at the screen of my laptop. Was it really working on it's own? I mean, I wasn't even connected to the internet, yet it seemed as though someone was playing Spider Solitaire when there was no one in the house but me..."

Oh yeah, I plan to expand on that one in the next week or so. Watch out for that one.

"The girl in the mirror was identical to me, but she had a haunted and chilling look to her eyes. Before I understood what was happening, she walked out of the mirror and into my nightmares..."

This idea came from yesterday's prompt. Do these lines seem to grab you? I know these aren't poetry, but I'm in the mood for short stories right now. If you have a great idea for a short story, please feel free to share the first couple of lines. See what people think. In a short story, I have to be pulled in from the very first sentence. It must be action packed from beginning to end with every word made to count. This is why I put a 500 word limit on the stories in the Halloween Contest. There is an art to cutting the story down. *Smile*

Yesterday was the last day for the 30 Day Image Contest. I almost felt like a little kid that forgot to do their homework when I didn't have anything in particular to write today. Of course, there is the assignment that I have for the Buds to Blossoms Poetry class, and the challenges that Dave has set forth in The Poet's Place. Nah... Although I know it's good to keep writing everyday, I need a little mental break. That challenge was really a tough one for me. *Laugh* Shaye really got creative with choosing some of those images!

This past week or two I've been doing some extra reading, and I have discovered something about myself. I love to read romance novels (no, I already knew that) that are set in the 1700's and the 1800's where you have a self assured rogue/rake that sets his eyes on some innocent young debutante, and until he wins her heart, the site of her will eat at his soul. Yeah, I know. Mushy! *Laugh* So while this is my favorite thing to read, I rarely write in this particular genre. On the other hand, I rarely read anything in the fantasy or supernatural genre's, and yet I write in them quite frequently. I just can't figure this out. *Laugh*

For inspiration, I thought I would list some of my favorite words out of the last few books I have read. It would be fun to interweave some archaic words into some current poetry. As I come across additional fun words in my reading, I will list them here. For the more archaic words, I will try to put a definition.

Portico
Ball (as in a dance)
Rogue
Rake (as in a man and not a tool)
Innocent (a girl who still has her virtue)
Virtue
Chaperon
Foolscap (a piece of paper)
Pantaloons (a type of men's pants)
Waistcoat
Cravat

Please feel free to use this for your own inspiration, whether for poetry or fiction. If you have anything to add, feel free to leave a comment. If you do use this for inspiration, please leave a link to your item so that I can view it and maybe send a review back! *Smile*

If you have seen any of my reviews or been to this blog, then you know I have an affinity for pixies! I have even written two poems about them, and won with both, I might add. Recently, some fun new poetry contests have popped up, and one is specifically for poems in the fantasy genre. There is another contest that accepts stories and poems in the supernatural genre. I think there are things that could go in either genre, and then some that would only fit in one or the other. So, I thought it would be fun to start a list of fantastical or supernatural creatures, and that might jump start me or other poets by way of inspiration!

Fairies
Faery
Fae
Pixies
Wood Nymph
Water Sprite
Elves
Elvin
Princess of....
Queen of .....
Angel

As a judge for the 13th Birthday Poetry Contest, I have read more birthday poems in the past few days than probably in my whole life. Of course, Fi has come up with some fantastic prompt words for each day, and several have attempted using all 30 words. That is an awesome undertaking, and I can't wait to read them all.

In my household, Sept. is also a big birthday month. My husband and both kids have birthdays within 6 days Sat. Since all this is going on, I am going to make my own list of birthday words. Feel free to comment and add any of your own. This way we will have a list to look at all year long!

Yesterday, I was looking for something to watch on tv, and while I was scrolling the guide, the station was tuned in to Dr. Phil. Now I'm not usually into talk shows of these kinds, but he made an interesting remark that really caught my attention. "Couples often spend more time planning their wedding than they do their marriage." That was profound. I have been happily married for almost sixteen years and we had a very small wedding. We became engaged and got married 2 1/2 weeks later. That is definitely something to ponder. So, what does this have to do with poetry? Have you ever considered the vows that are taken during your ceremony? They are not something to be said and then forgotten. Many write about the love act of marriage, and I am included in that category, but how often do we just enjoy having a friend and partner for life? Look at the words of the traditional wedding vows and see what inspiration can be drawn from that. I am definitely going to be working on this list for my own poetry.

to have and to hold from this day forward
for better or for worse
for richer, for poorer
in sickness and in health
to love and to cherish
until death do us part

Here are some other variations...

my constant friend,
my faithful partner,
and my love from this day forward

As God unites us in the presence of our family and friends
I give you my firm commitment to be faithful and loyal to you
in sickness and in health,
good times or bad,
in sadness and in joy.
I do promise to love you unconditionally,
to help you make your dreams come true
to respect and honor you.
I cherish you,
for as long as we both shall live

I already have the workings of a poem in my mind. If you get any inspiration from this, please let me know by commenting below. I would be honored to read your poetic expression of the marriage vows.

Marci

Marci Missing Everyone you say?
Who's she?

Well, Marci is...

An almost perfect poetess,
her work is a wonder to behold.

A fantastic friend,
one you'll want to never let go.

A lover of pink,
that's her only downfall. Wink

A lovely leader,
she's kind and fair.

Finally a Rising Star
a status she deserves.

Now you know,
Marci. *Heart*

We started this challenge on the 20th of this month, and for the first couple of days, I did okay. Now, I'm having a really hard time. I don't know what my problem is, but I have such a hard time coming up with ideas from pictures. So, I guess that's why I tortured myself and entered this contest. *Rolleyes*

I was thinking yesterday. I know that's scary, so watch out for flying gears and debris. *Laugh* Anyway, my favorite artist is Thomas Kincaid. I went to look at a gallery of his paintings, and I was extremely inspired. So, I don't think it's so much that it's a picture, but maybe a picture that I just don't feel inspired by. If any of you have an idea about how to overcome this, please feel free to comment or send me a note. In the meantime, find your inspiration and use it!

May your cupcakes help fulfill
your dreams and make your
stars brighter and lighter,
but, do take care that
all those sweets don't
turn your strawberry dreams
upside down and weigh down
your bright star

A Note by Samberine Everose

For being so sweet , just like those cupcakes, I heart you and a big and perfect bite for Marci

So, this week started school, and since I home school, it's been a challenge. The kids don't like to get back into a routine, and I have to admit, it's hard on me too. Well, tonight when the house was quiet, I was thinking about tomorrow's lessons. My daughter is really getting into parts of speech and counting syllables. I can't wait to work with her on Cinquain's and Haiku!!! Anyway, my son also has learned these things, but forgets from year to year. I know there are little rhymes out there for all kinds of things to help kids learn, and I thought about coming up with my own to help with learning the parts of speech. I'm listing out some of my ideas here, and maybe that will jump start something. Please, feel free to jump in and help if you have a spare moment and idea!

Parts of speech
noun - person, place, thing, or idea
verb - action word or state of being (is, was, were, be, has been, is being, was being, etc.}
adjective - describes a noun
adverb - describes a verb

As much as I read, I probably play games more. I love RPG's and adventure type games, though I rarely read those type of novels. Recently, as I was reading through the dialogue etc in one of my games, I realized how much talent it really takes to make these games work. Of course, I know that the technical aspects of it are something way outside my realm of understanding, but to combine that with story telling really is amazing. As long as I've been playing these games, I had never really stopped to think about that before. So, I've been reading the mystery/supernatural/adventure genre's all along and just didn't pay any attention.

Now what does that have to do with poetry? Oh, so much, my friend! If you are lacking imagery ideas for a poem, just go to one of these games. My favorite type games for inspiration are called Hidden Object/Adventure games. You should see some of the beautiful scenes in these games. Maybe you don't want to buy a bunch of games, but you'd like to see what I'm talking about. Go to some of the big gaming sites such as Big Fish, and they give you one hour free trial offers for these games. Many times you can get your ideas right away. A few of my poem ideas have come from these games recently, though not from their story lines, just their scenes. They include: The Wise Old Tree, Where Pixies Dance on Moonbeams, and the New Moon just to name a few. I also used this idea for writing the description of Hell in The Grim Reaper. To find these poems, and more, just visit my port. There is always something new going on!

I hope this was an inspiration to look new places for your imaginations!

Ideas from Awakening 5
This game has the most beautiful of any of the other HOG's. I've gotten all of these so far, and they continue to outdo themselves!
