Journal entries of my life as a writer.
This is a journal of my writing life since I joined the Writing.com community of writers. This is such a different place for me, I think it's a good idea to document my new writing adventures.

Who is your latest acquaintance? How is it?

Well, he's tall, dark and handsome. He tells me I'm his soulmate. He says he's ready to change his entire life so we can be together and bring his son along as well.

It feels weird that he's so close to what I've been looking for for a long time. It just feels too perfect. It's hard to believe it will actually happen. I don't want to jinx it or drive him away, but I worry something will happen to prevent things from working out. I'm afraid of getting my hopes dashed on the rocks. But I must move forward to make it happen. I don't want to miss out on such an opportunity.

So I will let time march on and look back on this entry and be glad that everuthing went well in the end. I'll just cross my fingers just in case.

Choose ant photographs from your album or photo book. If you can upload, the better. Say anything from that photo and include this thought while making a blog entry about it:

A sight of one faded photograph
Halts my pace at a moment
Asking myself why are you so real
Where are you now, where is our love?

The photo is of a canoe race on a mountain lake at summer camp. My friend Paula and I won the race easily with our skill and practice from another summer camp on the ocean, where we canoed a lot. She was my best friend in high school and my matron of honor at my wedding. Now we're still in contact, but it's no longer the same. So many things have happened and I don't see us being that close again. At least we had the friendship we had for such a long time. She told me at some time that I was her sober friend. I didn't know she was into drugs back then and I wonder if her daughter is mentally disabled due to her drug usage. I hope not, but I do wonder.

Write a parody of your least favorite nursery rhyme.

Hickory, dickory, dock
The mouse ran up the clock.
The clock struck one
And down he run.

Hickory, dickory, dock
The cat ran up the clock.
The clock struck two
And the mouse got his due.

Define what "Normal" means to you.

There's a funny thing about normal. It's a statistical term for the middle of the curve, stating that most of the items or people fall within the normal range. But there are always the ones on the tails for above and below normal. Some people define normal as average. In the statistical sense average could be used as a general term for a group, rather than just a single number figured out mathematically.

There is also the concept of what is normal for an individual as compared to an extra ordinary invent for thst person thst knocks them from their normal state. What might be considered normal for one person having certain personality traits could be out of the norm for someone else with different personality traits. This walks more on the psychological side of things. Understanding certain behaviors go with certain personality traits can help people understand each other better and even help people to get along.

So as far as what normal means to me goes, I believe normal is different for different people. It was said at one time that it is hard to decide what is too generous for a generous person. It was concerning monetary help I gave to a friend who was moving away from her abusive husband with her four daughters. That was a special situation having to do with the safety of five female friends of mine. It was sad to me that people wanted to criticize me for helping females get out of a dangerous situation. That money spent was important and shows that I care and I support people in need when I am able to do so. The thought of being criticized for humanitarian support hurts me deeply. Thise critics don't understand what it is to be a caring and supportive person. It's sad there are people like that in this world.

How is your relationship with our Diety? Take a closer introspection. Do you have something to say directly to Him, what is it?

I'm agnostic and I'm not sure there is an all knowing, all powerful being. There are people who used to pray to multiple Dieties because they felt they were in charge of different things. People still pray to different saints because they believe they are in charge of different things. So the concept still exists for there to be division of responsibilities and multiple beings watching over us.

I've been told I'm a spiritual being. I do believe in what comes around goes around and there are people who end up paying for their mistakes and cruelty. I believe people need to do what they can to help themselves and hope for the best. There are always going to be things that are out of our control. We just need to learn how to handle things the best way we can. Live life to its fullest and be kind to others.

What's your recent negotiation with friends, business associates, or in family circle whixh you are in full control and edge? How it turns to be? Was it fair enough to both parties?

I'm going to say my negotiation with joining Writing.com. I like that people review each others writing and comment on blogs and communicate via email. I think the communication with each other is the agreement and I think it's fair to all parties. You get out of it what you put into it applies for the most part. Sometimes things don't get reviewed, but most of the time writing does get reviewed here. It's a good thing.

What kind of camera did you take your first photographs with? What do you love to photograph?

My first camera was one of those long skinny 110 cameras. I slid a slider to advance the film in the cartridge. It was considered a camera kids could use because it was cheaper than the slr cameras by far and I believe the film cartridges were cheaper, too. You just dropped in the cartridge, instead of loading the film onto sprockets.

I took a lot of pictures with that camera, until the film advance slider got so much stuff into it, it wouldn't slide anymore. I like taking pictures of nature and artwork. I take pictures of people, too. But that's rare these days. I use a cell phone camera these days, so my camera is always handy.

Is there something that really gets on your nerves, like watching someone scratch themselves, or seeing a classmate chew on a pencil, or hearing your little brother making weird sounds at the dinner table? You get the picture. Now write about it.

I never liked the sound of fingernails dragged against the blackboard. I know we're moving away from those old chalkboards now, but they are still around in some places.

How do you mess with a writer? Tell him or her a correctly spelled word is spelled wrong.

How do you avoid lumps in a white sauce? Take care and squish them all before anyone notices. Shhh... Don't let anyone know about the lumps... We're professionals here. I don't see any lumps.

Plan the perfect Saturday.

Go big shopping. Fill the grocery cart with lots of fun stuff to eat. Bring it all home (after paying for it) and start baking and cooking. Make home baked bread. Make cookies. Make a huge dinner and eat early. Then everyone helps clean up and everyone has fun with games night. Movies were playing while cooking was being done of course. Enjoy.

Write a short story, poem or opinion on superstitions.

Superstitions

Watch out for that black cat
You don't want to cross paths
Is that a witch's familiar?
Does it have powers of its own?

Step on that crack
Break your mother's back
Doesn't she look bent?
Watch out for her wrath

There, that penny is downturned
Beware of the bad luck
Pennies have power
Never be penniless

Don't cross under that ladder
Do you want bad luck?
It's dangerous
Anyone can see that bad luck

Broken mirror
Seven years of bad luck
So many sharp edges
Such a tragic happening

Superstitions
Are they real?
Why are they so believable?
Maybe it only counts if you're caught - wink

Something you figure out to be...

I was at marching band practice one day and we were taking a break in the band room when a total stranger came up to me and gushed, "These are the best years of your life."

Now when you take into account that I really did not like high school, except for marching band and math tutoring for band members, you might understand that I thought this lady was off her rocker. Why would I think being away from my family working a job and supporting myself would be worse that living at home with my family? I decided this woman must have had a horrid life as an adult to tell a teenager who wants to be an adult that being a teenager is the best life ever gets, that everything else is just the worst you can imagine. That's what she said to me. She said adult life is far worse than being a teenager living with your parents.

I have thought about this woman and what she said many times. She came out of nowhere just to talk to me. She seemed to think I was going to be miserable as an adult. She was sticking her nose where it didn't belong and was in a place where she didn't belong. Now that I understand the involvement my stalkers have had in my life since childhood, this woman could very well have been one of my stalkers letting me know the worst was yet to come. I still think being an adult is better than being a teenager. I would rather live by myself than live with my family.

Best year of high school - froshman, sophomore, junior, senior?

My froshman year of high school was at the junior high school, so we were the eldest students in the school. My sophomore year was my first year of marching band. My junior year was dealing with getting into college. My senior year was the end of living at home with my parents and looking forward to the freedom of college away from home. I was so glad for high school to be over. I couldn't wait to get away. So senior year was the best because it was the last. I wasn't a huge fan of high school. Marching band and tutoring math were my favorite parts of high school.

Did you go to your High School Prom?

I have a long story for this one. The marching band was in charge of the prom and I wanted to know what the prom was all about just in case I didn't end up going. So I volunteered to work hat and coat check at the prom for two years. It was a whole lot of fun seeing everyone all dressed up and making sure nothing got lost in hat and coat check.

My junior year I also went with one of the music teachers to the flower market super early in the morning to get the flowers to decorate for the prom. I got to do the flower arranging for the prom and work hat and coat check. Again, that was a lot of fun.

When it came to my senior year, two guys invited me to the prom. One guy just wanted to use me to get closer to a friend of mine. I wasn't going to say yes to that guy. How rude? The other guy who asked me had heard through the grapevine that I wasn't going, so he thought he would ask me to go, since he knew I knew he actually liked me. The problem was that he had date raped me when I was sixteen and I wasn't in the mood for a repeat performance in a limosine. So I said no to him, too.

I was very glad I knew all about prom before my senior year,.so I didn't feel bad about not going. I guess I had a feeling I wouldn't end up going to it as a guest. I decided I had more fun supportfrom ng the prom, since I didn't have a steady guy.

What is the weirdest film you've ever owned?

I lived in the mountains for several years and it was a long drive to a place where I could buy movies, so I ordered them from Amazon and they would come to the Post Office for me to pick them up. I looked at the description of the movie and it sounded interesting, but the description had little to do with what went on in the movie. It was called The Secretary. It was about spanking in the workplace. The lawyer would hire secretaries who were prone to typos and he would spank them for their typos. The secretary in the movie fell in love with the lawyer and somehow convinced him to marry her and would always do something so she could get spanked for it.

I had never seen a movie like that before, so it felt strange to own that movie. Later I bought a movie about a sex study done years ago. At least I knew it was a study ans I thought it would be like a documentary. It turned out to be the people in charge of the study doing all sorts of things as part of the study. They even experimented in wife swapping for the sake of the study. Some studies are just strange. They say this was the first study abput human sexuality and it spawned other studies to find out if their findings were correct.

Your past makes you who you are today. Do you agree with this statement? Why or why not?

We are the product of our experiences is true since that's how we learn. But that doesn't mean we will be exactly like our parents or our siblings. We choose who we are and what we do. People are responsible for how they act and react. But there are scars that do show and prejudices also develop due to experiences.

I let someone know that I didn't like cheerleaders since the ones at my high school had no idea what they were doing and would cheer for the other team quite a lot, so the marching band did the cheers we were supposed to do for oir team. I had to let this woman know I was sorry for judging her simply because I heard she had been a cheerleader.

I have PTSD or Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. I get scare attacks. These are like controlled panic attacks. I can still functionnat some level, but I'm partially paralyzed with fear at the time of the attack. I don't know how to get around this situation. I just do the best I can. If I feel I'm in danger, I go into this mode of hypersensitivity and I'm aware of everyone and everything around me. I got this from my stalkers scaring me so much. I know my fears are based in reality. So how am I going to get over them? They are there to help keep me safe.

Memorial Day or Decoration Day (as it was originally known) occurs on the last Monday in May. Write a letter to someone who served and died in any war between the American Civil War and the present.

Dear Eddie,

I got the official notification that you were killed in the line of duty. I don't believe it for one second. Your baby boy was just born two weeks ago. You haven't met baby Michael yet. So you couldn't possibly be dead. I know they made a mistake.

I'm back at work at Walmart today. I need the money. Your mom is watching the baby. I got promoted to checker because my manager wanted to help out with the baby. So that will bring in more money and I get to stand on a rubber mat, so that's nice.

Your mom is so upset and wants to spend as much time as possible with Michael because he's a piece of you. I told her it must be an error. You just couldn't be dead so fast. You just left a few months ago.

I'll see you soon. Please write as soon as you can so I can let them know they made a mistake. They said your body is getting shipped back to me, so I'll get to see with my own eyes that it's not you. So hurry up and contact me as soon as you can.

Love, your adoring wife Cindy

P.S. I leave the light on at night just in case you come home at night.

Going fishing, what's your fish story? Today we will be blogging about fishing or any activities with something related to the sea or ocean. I grew up in Santa Monica, California, which is right on the ocean. There's a Santa Monica Beach, an official bike path on the beach and a famous Santa Monica Pier. The pier has entertainment and food and these days it even has a roller coaster and an aquarium. But it has always had fishing at the end of the pier. My dad took me and my brother drop line fishing off of the pier one day. It's like fishing with a kite string, instead of a fishing pole. He wanted to know if we were interested in fishing before getting more gear. We put on the hooks and the weights and the bait. We dropped our lines into the ocean. I got a tug on my line and I pulled it up. I caught a fish. My dad announced I had to eat everything I caught. I told him I didn't like fish, so I didn't want to fish anymore. My brother loves fish and he continued to fish with a pole and my dad and my brother even caught fish in the mountain lakes on a backpacking trip. My brother went on to get his Padi certification for scuba diving and got his Oceanography BS and has worked with a friend to collect samples for science classes, collect for aquariums, be an aquarist in aquariums and now he also spear fishes in his scuba gear. He even got interviewed about jelly fish in the area when he was in charge of the jelly fish exhibit at The Aquarium of the Pacific down in Long Beach, California. Now he's in charge of the aquarium at The California Science Museum in Los Angeles, California.

Describe the most difficult thing about being your age. I'm 47, so I find it difficult to be so close to 50. I also find it difficult to start all over in finding a good man. I've already married and divorced and I even lived with another man. But now I have other things in mind at this time of my life, so who I end up with matters more to me than it used to. At least I have people to communicate with online. Who knows? Maybe I'll pay the money for these online dating websites and find a man that way.
