seven years bad luck
In 1974,
I broke a mirror
In the bathroom.

I told my mother
Who was into the occult.

Secret lore
And ancient mysteries
As she was part Cherokee.

She said
I would have seven years
Of bad luck.

Which I did
Failed my first college
Graduated finally
After five years.

Almost died
Of typhoid
While serving in the PC
in Korea.

But eventually
The curse was lifted
When I met my wife
Eight years later.
