The House of the Soul

Here and there some wear and tear
But the wood looks quite unscathed
Walls are weary, floors dreary
Doors and windows not even faded

Dad's hands shaky his steps hesitant
His sense of humour intact
Artificial teeth, knees and stent
His words with wisdom packed

The body houses the soul
But it's not the whole
The skin has a lot wrapped in it
Time takes a toll
Age plays a role
But can't destroy the spirit

Doors and windows let fresh air in
And let the dust go out
Finally, happiness does win
When heart and soul are stout

The cracks and crumbles can be mended
The aches and pains can vanish
When only good is intended
No suffering can tarnish

A life well lived is a blessing
for those left behind to recall
It's not the bits that shriveled up
But the deeds that stood up tall
