Water Falling
Some say water
falling
is a roar

but I think tigers,
trains, tornadoes
might prefer
to claim that noise

in zoos, on tracks
through buildings

roars are not crystal
and they are never
ever clear

nor liquid, vapor, ice

roars belong to
fans at football games
and monsters in the dark

and maybe to the laughter
of a rowdy crowd

but water
falling
is the cascade of endless sheets
through earthen
arteries,

really just the sound of
compounds
clinging
to their bonds.
