like lightning illuminating the world in shadows
I was living and a poem
happened like an explosion
of meaning that changed
everything and my life was new
and my eyes were changed,
and so I paused
to find the words, the right words,
the perfect words to bring the poem
that happened to me like a change
from sepia tones to full color,
and I fought with it until the poem
which happened to me like
a burst of honeysuckle in the air on
an April morning,
was ready to
let out into the world, like a balloon
on the wind, to happen
to everyone else.
