| April 27, 2005, 4:54 PM So much for keeping up with my blogging. It turns out that senior year is not all about senioritis. There's still AP exams and homework and final presentations . . . blegh. On a positive note, I've finally found out from my colleges. I have been accepted to New York University, Carnegie Mellon University, Cornell University and a BS/MD program.  I was completely twirling in bliss for a day or so. Then I started stressing out over which college I should pick. Funny, I always imagined that after I got my acceptance letters, the rest of the year would just sort of flutter by happily. Nope, sorry. Reality is that there is much to tear out your hair about when you're faced with such painful decisions. So the last few weeks, I've been wavering back and forth between Cornell and the BS/MD program. While Cornell offers an Ivy League prestige and a gorgeous campus with awesome food and atmosphere, the program gives me a guarantee to a medical school - which is no laughing matter, considering the cutthroat rate of admissions into med schools nowadays. So puzzled I did. And like Yoda I talked. Finally, I flipped a coin. And another one. And another one. Then my friends created a list of pros and cons for each college. Then I decided to visit each one and wait for the finaid packages. I was still stuck. But after thinking really, really hard about my goals and comparing the price tags, I finally decided to walk the path of the BS/MD program. I figured that while Cornell is certainly an excellent school with amazing people and a superb curriculum, the BS/MD program will truly help me achieve my goals of becoming a primary care physician - and that is after all, what I really wish to be the final outcome at the end of either route. I know that there will be regrets with whatever path I take, but hopefully, the payout of the program will far outweigh the other aspects in the future. ~ Maeven |
