I can get lost in writing on rainy days
Thinking of life and its myriad ways
Of invading my dreams, sidetracking my goals;
Where lies the fault– too many roles?

Spring break is over; now it is best
To lay this fantasy romance to rest
Chronicled in a book this imaginary fling;
Still wishing it was a real ‘thing’.

Closed a chapter and turned a page on my life;
Around the corner is another strife.
Not a dalliance which caused a flutter,
But a muddle of mental health rutter.

Taxes to finish and papers to file
Life’s been on hold for too long awhile
Back to reality today is my plan
For to do less decelerates my van.

A job search, you say, when is it due?
Not a deadline? That’s how I get through
Each minute and hour, counting in time,
To fill space left by this fantasy of mine.

Watching rain drizzle and grey skies hover
I think and hope for my imaginary lover.
But alas all I have is chilled coffee to roast
Here’s to you, old friend, an imaginary toast.

A letter to write, an email to send
To truly end this dalliance with him.
To set my heart free, find space in the clutter
With regular heartbeats, no more flutter.
