Song For The Unburdened
None of us can stay young forever
but in our hearts

Wither where you may hide.
Sing your song in the shadows
That someone might hear --
Unless they might near --
Then, like a cricket
Make yourself scarce.
Hide your true love for any creature
More beautiful, showy,
Unknowing your intent to mate
With their words of appreciation,
Should they hear autumnal offerings.
Experience attuned
Echoes off nearby trees in the night.
Never let them visualize the messenger.
Just --
Give them your caged song to carry
In their (as yet) unburdened heart
That they might find and share
With their true love. And your parting --
Just
Whispers in the sheltered branches
Rising like steam to join wayward clouds.
They dispense your love like seeds
To the decaying ground -- hope
For renewal. Lose any memory
Of what you are.
