Reaching for the bluest sky
Reaching for the bluest sky

Almost all through life she’s been doing just that,
unawares trying to scale heights of excellence.
Nothing deterred her enthusiastic participation,
in life, a challenge, besides being other things.

“You can’t go to college, enough of education,”
they said. Her grades and teachers led her on
to a destiny she willed night and day, persistent,
intent on achieving the impossible, the unreachable.

“Get married first, and then talk to your husband about
the career you so loved,” professed parents and elders.
Familial duties and society’s expectations framed first
on her agenda of achievements, objectives and goals.

Every single available minute went in pursuit of
perfection; while seasons changed, her sons grew.
The limitless sky shining blue, the unreachable
sinking star in the horizon kept her sights ever

on the alert, ever on endeavor with new goals
springing in place of the fulfilled, the attained.
Like nature that never took a break, that never
sighed in need of rest, she too was ever bent on

tasks on hand, some personal, some for others; her way
of absorbing the rare pleasure of reaching for the bluest sky.
