Cinquain is any five-line poem or stanza. However, in her attempts to adapt Japanese traditions to the English language, Adelaide Crapsey developed a specific pattern which carries her name. Usually unrhymed, the structure consists of two syllables, four syllables, six syllables, eight syllables, two syllables, as described and demonstrated in the following links:
