I think the gist of this scripture is about what comes out of a person's mouth. I found several other scriptures that go along these lines:

Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruits. Prov. 18:21

For “Whoever desires to love life and see good days, let him keep his tongue from evil and his lips from speaking deceit; 1 Peter 3:10

Whoever keeps his mouth and his tongue keeps himself out of trouble. Proverbs 21:23

Set a guard, O Lord, over my mouth; keep watch over the door of my lips! Psalm 141:3

I tell you, on the day of judgment people will give account for every careless word they speak, Matthew 12:36

It is my belief that we direct our futures with what comes out of our mouths. I know I fall short in this area at times . Thank goodness we have an advocate with the Father - that we may come in Jesus' name to ask forgiveness, and to ask for help with this unruly member of our body.
