Hidden Dreams
A painted smile
hides a tortured soul,
an artist's passion.

Smudges on the mirror.
 Smudges on your conscience.
Smudges of makeup from countless yesterdays.

Your dreams
                   curl in the foetal position,
instinctive survival,
afraid
     to be
          exposed.

A weary chuckle
                           floats away
                                             on a puff of smoke.
