Impervious
No tears will fall
and leave trails of rust to
disturb a carefully constructed calm.

                   Their pretty painted smiles
                   and their wide, pleading eyes
                   are met with ruthless indifference.

                                       Tenderness unfamiliar
                                       to a heart that is more cogs
                                       and gears than vulnerable flesh.

                                                                     Time and torture
                                                                     have transformed me.
                                                                     from the woman they knew.

                                                                                         I will not flinch as
                                                                                         they too discover the flaws
                                                                                         of human susceptibility and emotion.
