A collection of my autobiographical poems

Silver linings
Story told in the guilty face and welling eyes,
illustrated
with each scattered shard
reflecting the glitter of tinsel
and fairy lights.

No heated emotions or sharp words,
just the dance
of cherished memory
across mind and heart.

Sitting at the wooden kitchen table at
Huia Road,
repurposing heirloom jewellery
into dainty Christmas trinkets
encased in glass baubles.

One memory inspires the next,
lips twitching at
soft styrofoam balls
decorated with sequins
speared
with dressmaker’s pins, symbolic
of the decade and an era
of handmade clothes.

Fragments of ornament swept and discarded,
small child cuddled close,
I appreciate the opportunity to make new
memories
to hang on future Christmas trees.
