Punch me when I'm down
A blotch of oily darkness lingers,
a constant escort,
felt, not seen,
and when they walk away, they
s m e a r
the muck until it rifles greasy fingers
                                       through my mind
and strokes down my spine,
snatching control
once more,
leaving me jerking
at the end of its puppet strings.
