Dark Time

Dark Time

Time falls back, the season turns,
blank leaves come tumbling down.
Grim nature drafts an elegy,
small creatures go to ground.

Light fades away in solstice gloom,
malefic night intrudes.
Dark shadows dance 'round firesides,
men sit alone and brood.

Cycling signs of sun and moon
writ large across the earth,
mark the ifs and oughts and mights
that chafe twixt death and birth.
