Lost in Inner Space

Lost In Inner Space

A broken down
Mentally untethered
Old man is afraid,
Lost in his memories
And his nightmares.

He often suffered
From insomnia
Particularly
At 0 dark hundred.

When the nightmares
Burst out.

When he falls down
Various rabbit holes
Lost in insanity.

As he deals
With the shards
Of his nightmares
Which leaves a scar
On his very soul.

At first light
He wakes up
Trying to find
The right words

To describe
His nightmare visions
That slowly fade
With the dawning sun.

Note: 0 dark hundred is military/intel jargon for that time two to three hours before dawn when special forces and other military/intel people get ready to lawn operations at dawn. Depending on the location and time of year, it is generally between two a.m. to four a.m.
