A Lost Pet
With a pen and paper
I think in retrospect
to tell you of my pretty cat.
I just ruffled her ears
as she rubbed my feet;
I, lost to a computer,
my big toe pressing at her
pink belly underneath me.
I was writing a personal
poem,
as purple as an iris
flowering my love
for my man,
giving me the pleasure
of thinking of him in
my purest thoughts.
I recalled the evening
that my cat got lost,
fading out into a
nightmare of a few
hours,
but she returned soon
enough,
as I sternly prompted
her to stay
behind the pruned
hemlock,
alive in a safe world,
a world she had known
for nine years.
I just want to enjoy her
friendly manner forever
and a day,
stengthening my love of
pets too, as
she whines to Daddy and
finds time for the both
of us.
May she stay like she is,
someone whom I show
devotion for and in return,
ask for a happy look when
she purrs for her supper.
