Spelling

Strange enough, the word Spelling in Dutch and English mean the same. Spelling is important - as a child you learn how to spell a word, in order to read and to write it.

To spell a word is also a tool, to master difficult words faster. Authors are always working with spelling - they don't even know it when they write. While typing their work they see letters appear on their screen. Letters forming words.

While reviewing I noticed that some authors must have written their work so awfully fast, they don't even notice that there are typo's in their work. Typo's that are made fast are a switch of combination in two letters. I.e. their turns out to be thier. And this is just one example. I can write down numerous examples, but I know as well that I am not perfect in my writing. However, I feel, if an author really wants to get their works published, they have to make sure that typo's are corrected.

But what if I can't find typo's myself? Some authors have the problem, when reading their own work, they overlook errors in grammar as well as typo's. That is quite common - even I am struggling with that.

My solution is a simple one... let someone in your environment read your work. If he or she finds errors, correct them directly before uploading or submitting your work. Publishing houses usually reject works that need heavy editing. Editing costs time and time is money for them.

Suppose, no one is available to read and correct your work; what can you do to improve it?
What I suggest in that case is, when you uploaded it to Writing.com and a reviewer points out these typo's to you... correct them! Ask your reviewer when you are ready to read it again, to see if you corrected it in the right way. That is the only way to learn from the mistakes that are made.
