Slug
Strange how some mornings I wake up feeling reasonable and others I feel like shit. One of those latter ones today for no apparent reason. I call them slug days; when everything seems too much effort and I never really get going at all. Even bog cleaning required every ounce of energy. But at least it's done now and I can focus on more pleasant tasks.

Been a long walk which hasn't helped much. Very cold wind today which I hate. I don't mind cold, crisp days but the wind is not my friend! Got to go shopping in a bit; it's Mothering Sunday in England this weekend. My own mother is eighty and my mother-in -law an amazing ninety so it's difficult to know what to buy. I suppose we have to be grateful they're still here at least. I'm not a problem at all; I've asked for a CD from my son; sorted!

I've received the results of an online writing competition today. The entry was free and the story had to be a real life one. The organisers commented that humour would be gratefully received as they receive so many tragic tales, so I entered my 'Walking Disaster.' I didn't expect to win of course, as free competitions attract a lot of entries. First prize of £1000 would have been very acceptable however. I've just read the winning story and I'm almost lost for words. It's all about death and although it has some good points it's hardly a memorable story. Full of 'was' 'were' 'would' 'had' and not written with any originality or imagery. I may not be an expert but I've learnt enough to know what constitutes outstanding writing and it's not the story I've just read. Sour grapes maybe, but rather disheartening to have my own work rejected last week with no explanation then read something very ordinary that has made someone richer. Moan, moan, moan. I should be awarded a degree in it. Still, no one ever said life was fair but a pleasant surprise would be appreciated now and again.

Maybe I'll win the Lottery this weekend...
