Empty or full, shiny or a little in need of washing and sometimes just cracked!

All Blue
By my reckoning it's the last day of July so this entry is going to make my calendar for this month completely blue. Not that I think I deserve any prizes for that, but I'm pleased to have been well enough to read and write every day for a month. That's something to be grateful for. Trouble is, it sets the standard and I'm going to feel a failure if I don't manage it every month. See, pushing myself too hard again? August and September could be difficult with more social events, sister visits and possibly another holiday. Still, it's nothing of great importance; just a good place to spend some time each day. No point living more than one day at a time anyway, who knows what tomorrow may bring?

My horoscope today reads 'Get your life in order. Take off the mask you have been wearing and see yourself in the mirror. Make sure you like what you see.' HUH? Tor, any chance I can borrow Billy Bob's time machine to take me back to circa 1965?

Tor also mentioned something about the laws of common sense yesterday, which reminded me of this piece someone sent me. Apologies if you've read it before.

"Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend, Common Sense, who has been with us for many years. No one knows for sure how old he was since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape.

He will be remembered as having cultivated such vauable lessons as knowing when to come in out of the rain, why the early bird gets the worm, life isn't always fair and maybe it was my own fault.

Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies (don't spend more than you earn) and reliable parenting strategies (adults, not children are in charge.)

His health began to deteriorate rapidly when well intentioned but overbearing regulations were set in place.

Reports of a six-year-old boy charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate, teens suspended from school for using mouthwash after lunch and a teacher fired for reprimanding an unruly student, only worsened his condition.

Common Sense lost ground when parents attacked teachers for doing the job they failed to do in disciplining their children.

It declined even further when schools were required to get parental consent to administer Panadol, sun lotion or a sticky plaster to a student, but could not inform the parents when a student became pregnant and wanted an abortion.

Common Sense lost the will to live as the Ten Commandments became contraband, churches became businesses and criminals received better treatment than their victims.

Common Sense took a beating when you could no longer defend yourself from a burglar in your own home and the burglar could sue for assault if you did.

Common Sense finally gave up when a woman failed to realise that a steaming cup of coffee was hot. She spilled a little in her lap and was promptly awarded a huge settlement.

Common Sense was preceded in death by his parents, Truth and Trust, his wife, Discretion, his daughter, Responsibility and his son, Reason. He is survived by three stepbrothers - I know my rights, Someone else is to blame and I'm a victim.

Not many attended the funeral because so few realised he had gone."

I suppose that makes me a fully paid up member of the Grumpy Old Woman club.

One of the wonderful things about 'blogging' is the inspiration that comes from reading other people's words. After reading Mavis's delightful cat entry today, I already have an idea for tomorrow! But today, I'd better get a move on. I got a jigsaw to do with mother!
