I hate Christmas
Yep, you read the title correctly. I hate Christmas.

A few days ago after watching an hour of television and having to already endure a dozen Christmas commercials, I decided I'm going to sit Christmas out this year. I've been hating this holiday more and more each year. I despise the stress involved, not only being obligated to purchase gifts for practically everyone I know, but trying to figure out the perfect gift for each one of them.

As I simmered in my hatred, I asked my husband, Dave, "What do you want to do for Christmas?"

"Hold you in my arms." Yep, he's a keeper. After 13 years of marriage, he's still likes me!

"Works for me," I said. "I don't want to go anywhere or do anything for Christmas. I don't want to give any presents or receive any."

Looking a bit shocked he asked, "Why?"

I then told him why.

"What if Aunt Carol or Grandma invites us over?"

"If it's not on Christmas day, that's fine. We won't have to exchange gifts that way."

"But if we go over a day before or after, we will have to."

"Then we'll tell them we have previous obligations and can't come over." I then suggested maybe we should go somewhere and rent a motel room for two days.

Dave seemed to like the idea. We haven't spent Christmas with just the two of us in five years, so that will be a nice change.

Does this surprise you, a Christian hating Christmas, and not just because the reason for the day is now almost completely lost, but hating even the very idea of buying gifts for the people I love?

It did me.

That is, until I read this:

It's a bit lengthy, but well-researched, and it will definitely make you see Christmas in a whole new light. In fact, if Stormy gives me permission, I would like to print it out, and have my pastor and others read it.

After reading Stormy's documentary, I don't feel guilty for hating Christmas anymore.
