A Precious Gift

Young Martha Hoover marveled at the sight, nose pressed against thick glass, warm breath forming white fog. Dressed in clothes years too small, gloveless fingers becoming numb with cold and boots sprouting tiny holes, she watched in envy at children running amongst toys being all shapes, sizes, designs or make.

Expensive playthings lost within a sea labeled wealth were not of concern as luck soon threw its goodness upon her. Crawling on hands colder than ice, they reached for an abandoned teddy bear buried beneath snow. Precious gift to be cherished forever made that little girl’s Christmas one always remembered.
