Butterfly

monorhyme written for Writer's Cramp

First Place

Lying in the grass, staring up into the sky.
I caught a glimpse of a beautiful butterfly.
With its delicate, orange wings it fluttered by.
I longed to hold its beauty, I wasn't sure why.
Clasping my hands, I caught it on the third try.
But when I opened my hands, I began to cry.
Its wings were broken, it could no longer fly.
I only wanted to touch it, not cause it to die.
