Summer Moon

The northern rim
of summer
marks
the inverted bowl of night
in a crystal's pattern
on the glistening shore
as the world stands
agape,
thrashing about
in perspiration,
while some contemplate
the future of their
daily bread in vain,
and others,
the luminous soul
of the universe,
inconsequential couples
engrave love
in each other’s starry eyes,
holding the light
of the moon.
