crisis points
I whipped off all the bedclothes, the sheets and everything. I took out all the laundry I wanted to do, all the things needing washed, including the jeans I've only worn once and the tops I haven't worn but that could use a little dryer tightening action. I drew up a plan to clean the room in its entirety while my stuff was washing, so that I could sleep on clean sheets in clean pajamas in my clean room.

Then I went out, got robbed by two guys in an alleyway, came back with no credit card and over a hundred dollars poorer, collapsed in powerless angst on my naked bed, got some AIM comfort from the one person I probably shouldn't have talked to in that mood, was offered a drink, went out, had it, was offered another, had it, was offered a few drags from a cigarette, took them, came back, figuratively and literally slept with my escort.

Thanks, Justin.

So now I'm back here, my room is even worse than it was before I started "cleaning" it because I got interrupted midway, my hair is horrific, my eyes are bloodshot from sleeping in my contacts, my throat hurts in a way that is disproportionate to the amount of actual smoke I inhaled, I feel terrible about relapsing into Justinland and I'm exhausted but! Can't sleep on this bed with its non-sheets, everything all mixed in the hamper now, nothing clean, nothing washed, nothing I can wear to class, if I even go.

I feel horrible, I feel horrible, I feel horrible. I also feel powerless and probably too stupid to function in a big city. San Francisco is going to swallow me up. I'm going to die there, probably, if I can't even walk through my own city without confronting that type of danger.

"You're lucky you didn't get raped," says Hugh.

And how it all started was that I got off at the wrong Metro stop, a completely ridiculous mistake for someone who rides the Red Line several times a week. It's not that I don't know I'm supposed to wait till Judiciary Square to minimize my walking distance; the train was really crowded with conventioneers, I couldn't see the signs at the stops, so I tried to count backward from Bethesda, I counted stops and waited till I thought I was twelve stops from my starting point, then got off, but I guessed wrong. I was three stops off, incredibly, I'm that bad of a guesser, so I ended up walking back a longer distance through a less safe neighborhood, and you know the rest.

I gave up on trying to figure out what to do about the Tetraults. I scrapped Emerald Forest and built a newer, more upscale towneshippe, Emerald Pointe. Sixteen original couples instead of eight, which should stave off Tetrault Syndrome a little bit longer.

I don't know why it makes me feel so very relaxed, doing that. Their names are like a mantra, meaningless but calming; I have complete control in exactly one area of my life, and that area is, of course, Emerald Pointe.

Outlandishly, every Sim derives more pleasure from a game of Red Hands than from WooHoo, or any type of foreplay. This is just ridiculous.
