Finally: A Fantastic "Literary" Vampire Story!
Susan Hubbard's stunning The Year of Disappearances, sequel to The Society of S is lyrical, literate, unpretentious, and absolutely a joy to read. Qualification: I never voluntarily read vampire (nor werewolf) books, even for review, and I avoid vampire movies. As far as I'm concerned, Bram Stoker said it all in the 19th century, and Bela Lugosi did it all in the original movie. That said, author Susan Hubbard immediately knocked me out of my anti-vampire complacency and thrust me into a society where vampires co-exist, albeit clandestinely, are deeply characterised and realistic, and the Planet is in danger of being overrun by drug-induced zombiism.

A definite DO-NOT-MISS!
