Poems August Running

Seventy

what would I dream?
I would dream of the dark
and I would see a haze
and I would walk through the red
to see a wood store with burlap sacks
and in the store, I would find a pendant
and on the pendant, it would say
"wear this where you go"
then, I would turn and see
a boy my age.

well, I will wear this
where I go, it is copper to heal and gold
to glow
it should gleam but it is only dull
like a bracelet,
a leaf, a star of the
stone
under our feet,
then wear it.
