Jack Watches
Jack sits on the front porch of a haunted house.

Jack Watches

Jack listens
As frightening monsters climb
The ancient steps to the haunted house
A timid click with the witches head knocker breaks
The silence of the dark moonlit night
The door screeches open
No one’s there

Jack watches
As the monsters refuse
To be the first to enter the house
Dracula and the Wolfman decide to go first
Bumbling their way through the doorway
The last monster gets in
It slams shut

Jack listened
From the house’s front porch
To the monsters that dared to go in
Jack listened to footsteps traveling through the house
Ghostly howls and laughter erupted
Then they reached the last room
It happened

Jack watches
The monsters run screaming
Their blood curdling shrieks pierced the night
Frankenstein, the witches, and zombies watch them run
Having given them such a great fright
Jack watches new monsters
Come calling.
