An English Tanka- We started working on poetry today in my class. This is what I heard.Writing Poetry

Writing Poetry?

A poem?
Me? Write one?
Not ME!
I just can’t,
Don’t know how…..





English Tanka

It is shorter than the Japanese Tanka but the rhythm is the same.

Only 13 syllables total.

No rhyme or meter required

The syllable scheme is as follows:

Line 1: 2 syllables
Line 2: 3 syllables
Line 3: 2 syllables
Line 4: 3 syllables
Line 5: 3 syllables
