Day After Tomorrow
5-17-04

As long as we're confused I'd like to mention
that I've always meant what I said
until you could prove me wrong.
What good is a predicament without a purpose
that isn't inclined to seem out of its time?
What place do I hold
when all you notice
seems ruined and scattered
and brings out the worst in me you can remember,
leaving it up to what I become known best for?
If on the day after tomorrow
I say the sweetest things
while you react by begging me to leave you
by aping everything you say I do
that causes hurt inflicted by me upon you
in the ways I couldn't possibly make you see...
If on the day after tomorrow,
after a night of carefully not sleeping
while knowing most of how my immediate future
will unfold,
I decide to throw all we are over a bridge...
If on the day after tomorrow
and everythings feels right
then I'll know you're a liar
for saying we wouldn't be the same again
for quite a long time.
