My husband worked later than usual today. We just talked on the phone, so I know he just left work and is forty-five minutes away or so. I have been home long enough that the dogs have had a potty break in the yard, and ate their supper. Now they are just sitting quietly, ears up like little antennae, listening to every car that goes down our dirt road. Is that Daddy's truck? Nope. Wait, what about that one? Nope. That one? Nope. Where is that man? Hopefully, he's stopped somewhere picking up some dinner for us. I'm not feeling the whole cooking thing tonight.

And YES, they can recognize individual vehicles by sound, better than I ever could. I have a dear friend who lives around the corner, and her comings and goings are particularly noted by Nibbler. I always tease her that she can't leave or come home without me knowing about it. Of course, I don't always know which way she is heading (unless I look), but I know she is on the move. He is quite the tracking device.
