Writing is a Discipline
To write my heart is sometimes hard
for sadness has been strong.
When soul inside is by grief jarred,
I often lack my song.

'Tis true I'm not the only one,
who's lost a parent dear,
But some days bright is not the sun
and hope seems not as clear.

My mind doth know the heart needs time
to let some salve to start
To mend the wound as newfound prime
returns the life to art.

This daily writing has its place
to force the eyes to see
When feelings need great mounds of grace,
preventing urge to flee.

I write as man, who needs to breathe
and eat one bite at time.
The anger at the loss may seethe,
but writing vents the slime.

I discipline the mind to write
for now the circle's full.
I started in the soul's dark night,
releasing love's sad school.

The loss of love in life of youth
may seem the deepest grief.
To write emotion's fullest truth
doth give a great relief.

Now write of one, who gave her days
to give my life to me.
My writing lives in oft displays,
that both our souls be free.
